5 Engine anti-ice Off
6 Igniter cb Out, to prevent re-ignition when motoring engine to reduce TOT
7 Throttle Close after 2 mins, observe TOT for rise – motor the engine only to reduce
TOT if it rises as part of a hot shutdown. Doing so just to provide oil flow is not
approved as it can accelerate rim cracks of the 1st and 2nd-stage turbine
wheels due to thermal shock.
8 Fuel Pumps Off
9 Caution Out
10 Gen/Batt Off when N1 = 0
11 Rotor brake Engage between 38-25% NR – above that is dangerous on a slippery pad,
and strains the system.
Emergencies
Generator Failure
Recycle generator switches and if power is not restored, loadshed as necessary. Do
not rely on the battery for more than 20 mins.
Engine Restarting In Flight
No starts should be attempted below 2000 or above 12000 feet, or if the failure is
mechanical. If you don’t restart by 1000 feet, carry on with normal autorotation.
The procedure is as follows:
No Item Action
1 IAS 50 kts
2 Start/Gen switch START
3 Fuel pumps On
4 Fuel Valve On
5 Fuel pressure/contents OK
6 Throttle GI
7 Start, monitoring for fire
Hydraulic Boost Failure
Indicated by feedback forces in the cyclic when making manoeuvres, but they will
be negligible if the controls are held in a fixed position. Reduce forward speed to
61-69 kts and cyclic inputs to a minimum, making necessary movements at a rate
not faster than one full displacement, stop to stop, per second. Check that the
Hydraulic Cb is in and that the HYD switch is on. Select the switch off if hydraulic
power not restored. Carry out a run-on landing – do not try to hover.
Fuel Control and/or Governor Failure
Indicated by an unaccounted for, sustained and increasing change in N1, torque
and engine power turbine/rotor RPM. Use the throttle over its full range down to
Ground Idle to maintain RPM within limits. If this is successful, make an
emergency landing under power, using the collective. Otherwise, close throttle and
treat as for engine failure.
The Bell 206 159
If you get a rundown, RPM must be kept within limits by lowering the collective, as
the throttle will already be open. If this is unsuccessful, make an emergency landing
with as much power as is available.
Fire
Engine Fire During Start
No Item Action
1 Starter Keep running for airflow
2 Ignition Cb Out
3 Throttle/fuel valve Close
4 Battery Off
Abandon aircraft with fire extinguisher.
Engine fire In Flight
Shut down engine, treat as for engine failure. Land as soon as possible, abandon
aircraft through main cabin doors with fire extinguisher.
Cabin fire In Flight
Extinguish fire by best means available, turn off heater and turn on all ventilation,
providing that this does not fan the flames. Land as soon as possible.
DO NOT BE TEMPTED TO FLY WITH FIRE—IF THE FLAMES DON'T
GET YOU, THE FUMES WILL.

Item Action
TRANSmission
TEMP
Temp is at or above 110 degs. Reduce power, check oil pressure, land asap.
TRANSmission
PRESS
Pressure below minimum (30 psi). Land asap.
FUEL PUMP One or two boost pumps inoperative. If one fails, enough is available for normal operations. If both
fail, the engine will operate normally below 6000'. Unuseable fuel 10 gals.
FUEL FILTER Filter clogged, land as soon as practicable.
ENGINE OUT With audio, means engine failure. Confirm with instruments.
ENGine CHIP Metal particles in oil, land as soon as possible
T/ROTOR CHIP Ditto
TRANSmission

Ditto. Be wary of autorotation, as unloading a rapidly deteriorating transmission could make things
worse.
ROTOR RPM LOW With audio, NR below 90%. Reduce collective, check full throttle.
BATTery TEMP Temp above 130 degs, switch off till cool.
BATTery HOT Temp above 140 degs, switch off and land as soon as possible.
GENerator FAIL Indicated also by loadmeter. Loadshed after recycling, land as soon as practicable.
HeaTeR FAIL Recycle once only, close firewall shutoff, switch off Cbs.

"Land as soon as possible" means just that. "Land as soon as practicable" means go
