(4) GUN 001-008, 010, 101 POST-EO B531006;
The functions of the DFDAU are as follows:
(a) A BITE and S/W PN positions switch - the toggle switch allows the operator to perform the BITE check of the DFDAU and initiate the software configuration check. 1) Setting the switch to the BITE position will initiate the
integrity check of the DFDAU. The DFDAU, DFDR, and the ACMS will light up in sequence. If no fault occurs then the status display will indicate NO FAULT. If a fault does occur, then the appropriate LED fault indicator will remain illuminated and the status display will read DFDAU ERROR or ACMS ERROR.
2) Setting the switch to the S/W PN position enables the DFDAU to display the software configuration and part number.
(b)
LED fault indicators - There are three fault indicators on front of the FDAU. They are the DFDAU, DFDR and the ACMS. If a fault occurs, the appropriate LED indicator will illuminate to identify the culprit.
(c)
ATE connector - the connector allows the operator to connect the test equipment to the DFDAU for testing and trouble shooting the FDAU.
(5)
The DFDAU provides 28-volt dc power for the accelerometer
excitation.
(6)
The DFDAU coding and aircraft ident shorting receptacle are located behind the DFDAU. Access is through the partition from the forward cargo compartment.
F. Digital Flight Data Recorder (DFDR)
(1)
GUN 001-050, 052-205; The DFDR records the data output by the DFDAU. Data from the last 25 hours of operation is stored on 1/4-inch wide magnetic tape. The tape is located in a crash-proof container within the DFDR.
(2)
GUN 206-999; The DFDR records the data output by the the DFDAU. The recorded data is done on a solid state flash memory chip. The recorded data contains the last 25 hours of the airplane operation.
(3)
The DFDR is installed on the voice and flight recorder rack E7. This rack is located above the aft galley ceiling. The exterior of the DFDR is painted bright orange and has reflective tape affixed to it to aid in its location in the event of an accident.
(4)
GUN 001-050, 052-205; The front panel of the DFDR contains a BITE indicator and a copy recorder connector. An underwater locator beacon is installed on the front panel. The indicator is black when the DFDR is operating properly. The BITE indicator turns yellow when a fault is detected in the DFDR or power is off to the unit. The copy recorder connector allows the recorded data to be transferred to separate copy recorder.

GUN 206-999; The front panel of the DFDR contains an underwater locator beacon and a copy recorder connector. The copy recorder connector allows recorded data to be transferred to separate copy recorder.
