Runway Analysis Legend & Procedures
The Runway Analysis section of the Flight Departure Papers normally comes in two parts. The first part contains a header and charts for flaps 11. and 15.. The second part contains a header, a chart for flaps 4. and the runway lengths, slopes, and any runway notams or remarks.
Use the example of Runway Analysis on the following pages as you read through the legend. Runway analysis for takeoff from Austin at a light gross weight is used for the example because it offers a look at all possible variations of the Flex Temp/ V-speed printout. Note that, due to runway slope at Austin, V1 speeds for the same gross weight vary by up to seven knots for different runways.

Flight number/date

Aircraft fleet number
Aircraft type/power (27A = 217A)
This area will say NORMAL BLEED and the data is valid with engine anti-ice on or off. (Other aircraft require correction for engine anti-ice on for takeoff and must have a second set of data to reflect it.)
Airport identifier, elevation, temperature, and forecast true winds. The temperature and winds are informational only (gross weights listed are zero wind). The current temperature and winds must be used when assessing takeoff capability with the Runway Analysis.

The planned gross weight of the aircraft for takeoff. This weight should be the same as that in the flight plan portion of the flight departure papers. It is a projection used to generate the range of gross weights available for FLEX TEMP calculation. The actual aircraft gross weight must be used when assessing takeoff capability with the Runway Analysis.

Runway column headings. All data below a runway heading is valid for that runway only. Runway columns will be listed left to right starting with those you are most likely to use for takeoff. Data for up to seven runways can be listed; data for a runway not listed may be obtained from dispatch or load planning. An asterisk (*) following the runway column heading indicates you should check the remarks section (21) at the end.
Engine rating and flap setting for which the data following are valid.
FLEX TEMP GW/V-SPEED Section:  A range of gross weights from approximately 3,000 lbs. below to 6,000 lbs. above planned gross weight are the row headings. Choose the row with a gross weight equal to or up to 3,000 lbs greater than actual gross weight, proceed across to the appropriate runway column, and find the FLEX TEMP (in .C) and the MAX AMB TEMP (in .F) for a reduced thrust takeoff. FLEX TEMP-C is the number dialed into the assumed temperature selector for a flex takeoff. MAX AMB-F is the maximum ambient temperature in degrees Fahrenheit for which a flex takeoff is authorized. At outside temperatures above the MAX AMB-F, a full power takeoff must be performed. Directly below the proper FLEX TEMP-C/MAX AMB-F are the first three appropriate takeoff V-speeds (V1, VR, & V2). The last three appropriate takeoff V-speeds (FR, SR, & MM) are in the last column to the right. Note: These V-speeds are not valid for tailwinds.
V-SPEEDS: If a takeoff is authorized for a given gross weight/ flap/ runway combination, V1, VR, & V2 will be listed in the appropriate runway column/ gross weight rows. If a gross weight row equal to or up to 3,000 lbs greater than actual gross weight is not listed, contact Load Planning for V-speeds. Absence of V-speeds for a particular combination means takeoff is not authorized (Exception: MC is displayed, See Item 14). These V-speeds are valid for either full power or  reduced thrust (flex) takeoffs in headwinds or crosswinds. In the far right column are the last three takeoff V-speeds: FR = flap retract, SR = slat retract, & MM = clean minimum maneuver . Note: These V-speeds are not valid for tailwinds. There are four possibilities for any gross weight/ flap/ runway combination in this section:
Takeoff not authorized. This will be shown by a single N/A in place of the FLEX TEMP-C/ MAX AMB-F, and no V-speeds present.

Flex takeoff not authorized (full power must be used). This will be shown by the double NA/NA in place of the FLEX TEMP-C/ MAX AMB-F, and the appropriate V-speeds below.
Flex takeoff authorized. This will be shown by the presence of both the FLEX TEMP-C/ MAX AMB-F and the appropriate V-speeds below. The flight crew must be sure that the actual outside air temperature for takeoff is equal to or less than the MAX AMB-F temperature. If the actual outside air temperature for takeoff is greater than the MAX AMB-F temperature, then the takeoff must be made with the ART switch in AUTO and T.O. selected on the TRI. The V-speeds are valid for either a flex or full power takeoff. Note: All Section 1 Limitations concerning Flex Takeoffs must adhered to.
MC (Minimum Control speed) is displayed with no V-speeds present. This will only occur on very short runways and at light gross weights. It does not mean that takeoff is not authorized. It means that the takeoff V-speeds for this situation are in the minimum control speed range. The “stored data” from which the runway analysis is built will not display takeoff speeds corrected for minimum control speed. The pilot weight manifest or radio closeout received at the gate will contain the correct takeoff speeds and these should be used. If a change of runway or takeoff configuration is required after gate departure, and MC is displayed in the Runway Analysis for the planned takeoff, then Load Planning must be contacted for V-speeds.
