4. GUN 004-007; Prepare for Servicing of the Passenger Oxygen Cylinders - External Fill
_______________________________________________________________________
A. General
(1)
For cylinders with more than 5 psig, you can add oxygen to the cylinder from the ground servicing equipment.
(2)
For cylinders with less than 5 psig (34.5 kPa), you should replace the cylinder with one that is fully serviceable. Cylinders with less than 5 psig usually contain too much fluid. Refer to Passenger Oxygen System Servicing (Cylinder Replacement) paragraph to replace unserviceable cylinders.
(3)
Do the oxygen servicing at a servicing panel. It is on the rack for the passenger oxygen cylinders in the aft cargo compartment, aft of the No. 2 cargo door.
(4)
Read and obey the Passenger Oxygen System - Maintenance Practices before you do the servicing (Ref 35-21-00/201).
B. Equipment
(1)
Supplemental cylinder oxygen gage with these properties:
(a)
Accurate to |1 psig (6.9 kPa),
(b)
2-psig (13.8 kPa) graduations.
(2)
A thermometer - (Fahrenheit or Centigrade)
C. Consumable Materials
(1) G00092 Oxygen System Leak Detection Compound -Sherlock CG Type 1

WARNING: OBEY THE MAINTENANCE PRACTICES GIVEN FOR THE PASSENGER OXYGEN
_______ SYSTEM. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THEM, A FIRE OR AN EXPLOSION CAN OCCUR.
(1)
Read and obey the Passenger Oxygen System - Maintenance Practices (AMM 35-21-00/201).
S 033-045
(2)
Turn the fasteners for the cylinder rack access panels 1/4-turn in the counterclockwise direction. Remove the access panels.

(3) S 863-046Make sure the reset buttons on the continuous-flow control units, for the passenger oxygen system, are on the OFF position.
(4) S 863-047Supply electrical power (AMM 24-22-00/201).
(5) S 213-088Find the pressure values shown on the passenger oxygen indicator on the servicing panel and on the oxygen cylinder gages.
(6) S 973-051Do these steps to find the equivalent cylinder pressure at 70°F:
NOTE:____ You must correct the cylinder pressure to the standard temperature 70°F (21.1C).
(a) Find the cylinder pressure on the vertical scale of the pressure/temperature correction chart (Fig. 302). Draw a horizontal line through this point.
NOTE:____ The cylinder pressure is shown on the pressure indicator on the fill panel and on the gages on the oxygen cylinders.
(b) (c) (d) Find the ambient temperature of the cylinder compartment on the horizontal scale. Draw a vertical line through this point.Draw a slanted line, parallel to the nearest existing slanted line, through the intersection of the drawn horizontal and vertical lines.Use the values on the slanted lines to find the equivalent cylinder pressure at 70°F (21.1C).
NOTE:____ For an example, if the indicated cylinder pressure is 1685 psig (11617.6 kPa) and the ambient temperature is 20°F (6.6C), the equivalent cylinder pressure at 70°F (21.1C)is 1850psi (12755.3 kPa).
(7) S 843-052If the equivalent cylinder pressure at 70°F (21.1 C) and (12065.8 kPa) 1750 psi or greater, servicing is not necessary. Do the Put the Airplane Back to its Usual Condition paragraph.
(8) S 613-053If the cylinder pressure is between 1750 psi(12065.8 kPa) (equivalent pressure at 70°F)(21.1C) and 50 psig(344.7 kPa), do the Service Passenger Oxygen Cylinders paragraph.
