the climb segment, defined from the origin to the initial T/C, using current A/C SAT and CRZ TEMP entered on the INIT A or the FUEL PRED page
-
the cruise segment, defined from the initial T/C to the T/D, which can be entered on the CRUISE WIND pages
-
the descent segment, defined from the T/D to the destination, using the destination temperature entered on the PERF APPR page.
Forecast ISA DEV is determined at each waypoint and pseudo waypoint along the F-PLN for prediction purposes only. Neither forecast ISA DEV nor forecast temperature at a waypoint is displayed.
(10) Equi-Time Point (ETP) The ETP is a point along the lateral flight plan at which the time to reach two designated reference airports or waypoints is the same, taking distance and winds into account. This point is displayed as a pseudo waypoint on the ND. No corresponding pseudo-waypoint exists within the flight plan. An EQUI-TIME POINT page allows selection of the points for computing an ETP as well as the time and distance from current aircraft position to both the ETP and selected reference waypoints. (Ref. Fig. 044)

Time marker Up to four time markers can be entered on the F-PLN A or B pages. Once a time marker is entered, a pseudo waypoint is created and placed along the F-PLN for display on the MCDU and ND. The pseudo waypoint is the predicted location of the aircraft along the active F-PLN at the entered time.

SECONDARY (SEC) F-PLN predictions (Ref. Fig. 045)
(a)
SEC F-PLN created by a copy of ACTIVE F-PLN Predictions are calculated if the three following conditions are satisfied:
-the first lateral leg of the SEC F-PLN is identical to the active leg of the ACTIVE F-PLN
-A/C is in preflight, takeoff, climb or cruise phase
-Tops of Descent of both F-PLNs are predicted beyond the A/C. Performance calculation methods for the SEC F-PLN are the same as for the Primary F-PLN, based on the current A/C characteristics (GW, FOB, CG, ALT and speed) and using same CRZ FL, Engine out conditions and Performance factor as Primary F-PLN.
When available, predictions are provided for display on the following MCDU pages:
-
SEC F-PLN (for each waypoint) except secondary alternate
-
SEC PERF (for destination; altitude planning is not available but selection of speed is possible).
(b)
SEC F-PLN created via SEC INIT page It is in fact treated as an ACTIVE Primary F-PLN before engine start (it is totally independent of current ACTIVE F-PLN and current A/C characteristics). Same logic of availability of fuel planning and fuel predictions exists as defined in Para. 3.:
-
Fuel planning Predictions are only provided on the SEC INIT B page.
-
Fuel predictions Predictions of time are in Estimated Time En Route (ETE) (origin time 00.00).
Predictions are provided on the following MCDU pages:
-
SEC INIT (fuel)
-
SEC F-PLN (for each waypoint) except SEC ALTN
-
SEC PERF (for destination, altitude planning is not available but selection of speeds is possible).

OPERATIONAL USE - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
___________________________________________
1. General
_______ The Multipurpose Control and Display Unit (MCDU) is the primary entry/ display interface between the pilot and the FM part of the FMGC providing the means for inserting system control parameters and flight plans and for subsequent modification and revision. It displays information regarding flight progress and aircraft performance for monitor and review by the flight crew. It performs access and retrieval of navigation and route planning data from the data base. It has also a multipurpose usage for interfacing with other A/C systems:
-basic: CFDS.
- optional: ACARS or ATSU, AIDS.
