Onex lost a bid to buy Air Canada.
The Onex quarterly report states: “Onex’
objective is to create long-term value by
building industry-leading businesses and to
have that value reflected in our share price.”
Onex sold Loews Cineplex in July for $2
billion. The company recently reported
having $1.6 billion in cash or near cash
assets on hand. Early this month, Onex
started a real estate firm to acquire new
properties in North America.
Other firms believed in contention were
Washington D.C.-based Carlyle Group,
Dallas’ Vought Aerospace, and BAE
Systems of the United Kingdom. GKN
PLC, believed to be an early front runner,
announced last fall it was no longer
interested.
While originally denying rumors the plant
was for sale, Boeing officials confirmed in
March 2004 that it was, in fact, looking
to sell the most productive plant in the
company’s list of U.S. holdings.
