“We are extremely happy to get this
work,” said SPEEA President Jennifer
MacKay, a manufacturing engineer planner
for Triumph.
In addition to manufacturing the floor
panels, the Airbus contract calls for
Triumph to perform the engineering for
the work. However, Triumph is sending
that work to a company in India.
“Not only is outsourcing that work from
Triumph not necessary, but if it has to
go outside, there are a number of skilled
engineering firms in Spokane that could
have done the work,” MacKay said. “It
does not have to go overseas.”
Securing the Airbus contract marks the
first time the former Boeing employees
in Spokane will use their expertise to help
build parts for their former employer’s
rival.
SPEEA represents 35 of the 320 employees
at Triumph in Spokane. It is the only
plant where 100 percent of the SPEEArepresented
employees are full, dues-paying
members. The plant makes floor panels,
air ducts and flight deck components.
Triumph is based in Wayne, Penn.

his dream of “coming together” a reality!

Regional science fair needs judges
Get off the couch and into the minds of future scientists – become a volunteer
judge for the annual Puget Sound Regional Science Fair, March 19, in Tacoma.
You can choose your area of preference in terms of subject matter, and you can also
choose between judging K-5 and grades 6-12. You will receive training prior to the event.
This is the kind of thing that volunteers are often return to, because they enjoy it so
much, but there are still plenty of opportunities to take part. The time commitment is
minimum, compared to the reward – seeing young adults broaden their horizons through
science.
