Section 71-20 % Engine Mounting - Lycoming Engine
1. General
Tubular steel makes the engine mount. The engine mount has welded joints. Paint protects the frame from corrosion. Rubber lined P-clamps and cable ties hold electrical cables and other items of equipment to the engine mount.
The engine mounting -frame has five small mounting pads at the rear of the frame. Bolts through the pads attach the engine mount to the fuselage. The center mounting also supports the elastomer pack for the nose gear leg.
The engine attaches to the engine mount at four mounting pads. Shock mounts go between the engine and the engine mount pads. These shock mounts isolate the airframe from engine vibrations.

Trouble-Shooting
1. General
The table below lists the defects you could have with the engine mounting. If you have the trouble detailed in the Trouble column read across to the Possible Cause column. Then do the repair in the Repair column.

Engine vibration.  Cracked engine mount. Defective shock mounts.  Do a test for cracked tubes. Look specially at the welded joints. Install new shock mounts.

Maintenance Practices
1. General
The maintenance practices for the engine mount are limited to removal/installation. If the engine % mount is damaged it must be repaired by an authorized repair facility.
2. Remove/Install the Engine Mount
A. Equipment

B. Remove the Engine Mount.

(1)  Lift the airplane on jacks and make the airplane level.  Refer to Section 07-10. 
(2)  Move the wing trestles into position.  Refer to Section 07-10. 
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE ENGINE IS SAFE BEFORE YOU DO ANY WORK ON THE PROPELLER. IF THE ENGINE IS TURNED, THE PROPELLER CAN CAUSE INJURY OR DEATH. 
(3)  Set the fuel selector/shut-off valve to OFF. 
(4)  Make sure that the engine is safe: S Set the ignition switch to OFF. S Set the throttle to IDLE. S Set the mixture control to LEAN CUT-OFF.

(5)  Remove the propeller (if necessary).  Refer to Section 61-00. 
(6)  Remove the engine.  Refer to Section 71-00. 
(7)  Disconnect the elastomer pack for the nose gear leg from the engine mount: S Support the weight of the nose gear leg. S Remove the bolt and washer from the elastomer pack eye end.  This bolt also holds the engine mount. 
(8)  Remove the SlickSTART booster control unit or LASAR control unit from the engine mount: S Remove the two nuts, bolts and washers which attach the control unit. S If the LASAR system is installed, then remove the manifold pressure hose from the control unit.  Note the position of the earth cable. 
(9)  Remove the voltage regulator from the engine mount: S Remove the 4 nuts and washers which attach the voltage regulator to the engine mount.
