% C. Engine Starting and Warm-Up

Detail Steps/Work Items  Key Items/References  Results/Comments 
(1)  Enter the cockpit.  Take the laptop computer and CAN interface with you. 
(2)  Set the parking brake to ON. 
(3)  Make sure that the emergency fuel valve is set to NORMAL. 
(4)  Make sure that the passenger door is closed and locked. Close and lock the canopy. 
(5)  Set the power lever to IDLE.  Make sure that the power lever is free to move. 
(6)  Connect laptop computer to service plug on TAE harness with CAN interface. Switch computer on and start the "ECU Operator" software. 
(7)  Set the ELECTRIC MASTER key switch to ON. 
(8)  Do a test of the annunciator panel.  Refer to Section 31-51. 
(9)  Set the alternate air control to OFF. 
(10)  Make sure the area of the propeller is clear.

(11)  Set the ENGINE MASTER switch to ON. 
(12)  Make sure that the engine instruments read correctly.  The RPM, LOAD and FUEL FLOW indications must be zero (0). Dashes (-) indicate a malfunction. 
(13)  Turn the ELECTRIC MASTER key switch to the START position.  Do not start the engine as long as the white GLOW status light is illuminated. 
(14)  When the engine starts: S Release the ELECTRIC MASTER key switch. 
(15)  Leave the power lever at IDLE.  Make sure that there are no warning lights on. 
(16)  Monitor the oil pressure.  The oil pressure must rise to 1 bar minimum, within 3 seconds of starting the engine. If it does not, then you must shut-down the engine. 
(17)  Let the engine idle at 890 RPM for 2 minutes.  Monitor the engine instruments for unusual indications. 
(18)  Set the power lever to give 1400 RPM.  Until the oil temperature rises to at least 50 oC and the coolant temperature rises to at least 60 °C.

(1)  Set the power lever to IDLE.  The RPM must be 890 ± 50. Both ECU caution lights must be off. 
Note: If the ECU TEST button is released before the test is over, then the ECU will immediately switch back to normal operation. 
(2)  Press and hold ECU TEST button.  Both ECU caution lights must go on. 
Note: During the change-over from one ECU to the other, a single light vibration of the engine may occur. This is normal. WARNING: DO NOT OPERATE THE AIRPLANE IF THE VIBRATION CONTINUES. STOP THE GROUND TEST AND FIND THE FAULT.
