F. Operation
(1) Engine fire emergency shutdown is controlled by the thrust lever, fuel control switch, and the engine fire switch.
(a)
When the appropriate thrust lever is moved to the idle position, deceleration of the engine occurs.
(b)
The toggle switch for the fuel control closes both the fuel control valve and the fuel shutoff valve, stops engine ignition, and deactivates the control system for the thrust reverser, when moved to the CUTOFF position during flight.
(c)
The engine fire switch arms the engine fire extinguisher, depressurizes the hydraulic system, and isolates the engine, when the switch knob is pulled out. 1) Engine isolation de-energizes the generator control relay,
closes the engine hydraulic and pneumatic isolation valves, and makes sure the fuel shutoff valve is closed.
2) Engine isolation will show on the main display screen of the EICAS by the status message SHUTDOWN after the appropriate location, i.e. ENG 3 SHUTDOWN. a) The EICAS status message SHUTDOWN will show in white
letters in the upper right corner of the screen.
(d)
Each engine fire switch is connected electrically to two extinguisher bottles. 1) Engine one and engine two are connected to the same two
extinguisher bottles while engine three and engine four are connected to another two extinguisher bottles.
(e)
When the armed engine fire switch is turned to either the right or the left, one of the two bottles will discharge.
