 B.  The go-around switches supply input to the FMC to signal go-around conditions selected. The settings for the go-around flight control and thrust are preselected settings which are attained and controlled by the FMC when the go-around switches are closed.
 7.  Engine Start Module
___________________
 A.  The engine start module includes four toggle switches for the fuel control found on the aft deck of the control stand. Each switch can be moved to either the RUN position or the CUTOFF position. Each switch operates a fuel solenoid actuator and opens or closes the fuel control valve.
 B.  Each toggle switch will illuminate red as a warning of an engine fire. When you move the toggle switch to the CUTOFF position during flight, as required by the Engine Fire Emergency Shutdown procedure (AMM 76-21-00/001), it will cause the status message SHUTDOWN to show in the upper right corner of the main display screen of the engine indication and crew alerting system (EICAS) in white letters.
 C.  Also part of the engine start system are the ignition switches and the start switches found on the P5 overhead panel.
 8.  Operation (Fig. 2)
_________
 A.  The forward thrust lever controls the power settings for the forward thrust through the full range of motion of 50 degrees.
 (1)
As the forward thrust lever is moved, it rotates the brake assembly which in turn rotates the position resolvers for the thrust lever.

 (2)
The position resolvers receive power from the EEC and by altering electrical signals, supply thrust lever position to the EEC.

 (3)
The EEC transmits an electrical signal to operate the torque motor which controls the fuel metering valve on the fuel metering unit to set fuel flow.

B.  The reverse thrust lever controls thrust reverser deployment and reverse thrust power.
 (1)
The reverse thrust lever is inhibited by the grounding latch on the reverse thrust lever from more than 8.5 degrees of lever travel when the forward thrust lever is more than 2 degrees forward of idle. When the forward thrust lever is in the idle position, the reverse thrust lever can be moved forward.

 (2)
Between 2 and 8 degrees of lever travel the reverse thrust lever actuates the control switch for the thrust reverser, found in the handles for the thrust lever assembly, which cause the isolation valve in the strut to open and pressurize the thrust reverser system.

 (3)
Between 25 and 35 degrees of lever travel, the reverse thrust lever actuates the directional control switches for the thrust reverser, found in the microswitch pack assembly, which causes the directional control valve in the strut to move to the deploy position.

 (4)
When reverse thrust is selected the EEC transmits an electrical signal to the interlock actuator for the reverse thrust lever to motor from the normal or retract position into the extend position. In the extend position, the interlock mechanism for the reverse thrust lever prevents movement of the reverse thrust lever to more than 55 degrees of lever travel.

 (5)
When the thrust reverser is in the null thrust position, the EEC transmits an electrical signal to the interlock actuator for the reverse thrust lever, which causes the actuator to motor to the retract position.

 (a)  With the interlock actuator in the retract position, the interlock mechanism for the reverse thrust lever allows the reverse thrust lever to be moved the remainder of the 89.25 degrees of travel for the reverse thrust lever. 1) The reverse thrust lever rotates the brake assembly and the
position resolvers for the thrust lever to apply power. 2) The position resolvers, by altering electrical signals, supply the position of the reverse thrust lever to the EEC.
 3)  When the thrust reverser is in the null thrust position, the EEC transmits an electrical signal to operate the torque motor which controls the fuel metering valve on the fuel metering unit to set fuel flow, based on thrust lever position and thrust reverser position from the null thrust position.
