Remove the support beam.
(a)
Hold the support beam in its position.
(b)
Remove the swing link (Fig. 402). 1) Remove the bolts from the two swing link sections. 2) Make a note of the location of the shims and the washers. 3) Keep the shims and washers.
(c)
737-300 OR 737-500; Remove the data plate from the bottom of the forward swing link half.
(d)
Disconnect the inboard flap inboard track from the support fitting.
(e)
Remove the support fitting for the inboard track of the inboard flap from the support beam.
(f)
Remove the cotter pin from the outboard attach pin and discard it. (for customers with SB 57A1260)
(g)
737-300 OR 737-500; Remove the lockbolt from the outboard attach pin.
NOTE: There may be interference between the lockbolt and the
____ trailing edge panel nutplates. If this condition occurs, the nutplate may be removed and replaced after reinstallation of the lockbolt, or if necessary, the lockbolt may be cut for removal and the replacement lockbolt may be installed with the head down. Some 737-300/-500 airplanes may have been delivered with lock bolts that are 0.125 inch too long. Use the correct lockbolt which has a grip length of 2.125 inches.
(h)
Remove the outboard attach pin from the support beam and the rear spar.
(i)
Carefully remove the support beam. 1) Move the support beam inboard until it is around the rear spar fitting and the hydraulic tubes. 2) Lower the outboard end of the beam and move the beam
outboard. 3) Remove the support beam from the airplane.

(1) Install the support beam (Fig. 402).
(a) Put the support beam into its position.
1) Lift the inboard end of the support beam and move it inboard until it is above the flap track and hydraulic tubes.
2) Lift the outboard end of the support beam. 3) Put the outboard end of the support beam in the rear spar fitting. 4) Hold the support beam in its position.
(b) Attach the support beam to the rear spar support fitting.
1) 737-300 OR 737-500; Measure to find if it is necessary to install new bushings or shim washers. a) Measure the clearance between the bushing face on the
FORWARD side of the support beam and the adjacent bushing face on the spar support fitting.
NOTE: This clearance FORWARD of the support beam
____ cannot be more than 0.020-inch.
b) If the clearance between the bushing faces FORWARD of the support beam is MORE than 0.020-inch, replace the defective bushings.
NOTE: The defective bushings can possibly be on the
____ forward or aft side of the support beam.
