LEADING EDGE SLATS - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

1. General_______
A. Three leading edge slats are installed on each wing outboard of the engine (Fig. 1). The slats are numbered 1 through 6 from left to right. The slats consist of ribs attached to a beam, inner and outer clad aluminum skin, and a honeycomb trailing edge. An intermittent void between the outer skin and the beam upper cord provides a path for thermal anti-icing. Anti-icing ducts installed in the slat leading edge connects with hot air supply lines through a telescoping tube. The TAI air exhausts out of holes inter spaced along the slat SPAN LOWER surface aft of the beam. A three-position hydraulic actuator is attached at the center of the slat. Each slat has two main tracks which ride on rollers mounted on fixed leading edge ribs. The slats also have auxiliary arm rollers that mount to auxiliary tracks that are attached to the front spar at two locations for slats 2, 3, 4 and 5 and three locations for slats 1 and 6.

1. General_______
A. There are two tasks in this procedure. There is one task for the removal of the main track roller hardware for the leading edge slat. There is one task for the installation of the main track roller hardware for the leading edge slat.

Do section AMM 27-81-21/401, Leading Edge Slats -Removal/Installation to secure slats prior to access of roller bolts.

Remove cotter pins from roller bolts.

Pull bolt out from rib assembly.
NOTE: Be careful for loose parts as you remove bolt.
