Quality Assurance: Traceability via software process control
This technology is being trialled by the main aerospace OEM’s indicating it will play an important role in the
future of cost-effective high performance composite parts.
Novel Hexcel technologies for enhanced toughness in composite laminates
Composite materials made with multiaxial reinforcements, unidirectional tape or dry fibre placement
preforms show reduced performance in impact tests, which limits their use in some structural applications.
The use of resins that have been modified for enhanced impact performance (such as those used in
Prepreg technology) makes it difficult to manufacture parts using direct processes due to the higher
viscosity of the matrix and the filtration effect.
To resolve these problems, Hexcel is working on new innovative solutions:
-interleaved materials for multiaxial and UD tape and unidirectional fabrics.
-modified binders for higher impact performance using DFP technology.
