ADVANCED FIBRE-REINFORCED MATRIX PRODUCTS FOR DIRECT PROCESSES
INTRODUCTION
Hexcel is a global leader in providing composite solutions for aerospace and other high performance
applications. Hexcel pioneered the development of resin formulations for composites and is the premier
worldwide supplier of prepregs, RTM and RFI systems. Hexcel is also a major manufacturer of carbon
fibre and a leader in reinforcement fabrics and nonwovens for composites. Our unrivalled integrated
product range means that Hexcel is the composite specialist.
Direct processes, covering a wide variety of techniques to combine resin and reinforcement, including RTM,
VaRTM and RFI, are the focus of this brochure which complements Hexcel’s prepreg technology manual.
DIRECT PROCESSES
Direct Processes, also frequently called liquid moulding processes, belong to a category of production
techniques that differ fundamentally from prepreg based fabrication technologies. Unlike prepreg, resin
and reinforcement are combined and cured in the same moulding operation, offering a very different
processing route to the component manufacturer. This has generated interest in the industry and many
