range of static, fatigue and impact testing
rigs, together with manufacturing and
analysis facilities.

Springer has signed a co-publishing agreement with the Indian
Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, on the occasion of its 50th
anniversary. Together they will launch a journal entitled
International Journal of Advances in Engineering Sciences
and Applied Mathematics.
The journal will accept articles in all areas of engineering and
applied sciences, but will be thematic in that each quarterly issue
will be dedicated to a specific area of engineering science and
applied mathematics. The journal will also publish review articles
which summarise the state of the art and provide a perspective on
areas of current research interest. The publishing partnership
between Springer and IIT Madras will commence in January 2009.
This journal is being launched to mark the 50th anniversary of
the founding of the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. IIT
Madras is an “Institute of National Importance,” created by an act of
Parliament, and dedicated to the dissemination of science and
technology. The IIT is seen as one of the finest engineering
faculties in the world.
“Over the last 50 years the Indian Institutes of Technology have
earned an enviable reputation for themselves in teaching and
research. To commemorate the celebration of its Golden Jubilee, IIT
Madras is launching the International Journal of Advances in
Engineering Sciences and Applied Mathematics. IIT Madras is also
celebrating fifty years of Indo-German Cooperation and it is
appropriate that Springer is our partner in this undertaking. We are
grateful to the eminent members of the international advisory
board who have kindly consented to lend their names to this
initiative,” said Professor M. S. Ananth, Director of IIT Madras

Starting in January 2009, Springer will publish The
International Journal of Social Robotics, an important addition
to its growing engineering publishing programme. The quarterly
journal aims to provide an overview of the current state of the
social robotics field, how the field and related technologies are set
to evolve in the future and their impact on society at large.
The International Journal of Social Robotics will cover a broad
array of topics related to the study of robots able to interact and
communicate among themselves, with humans and with the
environment within the social and cultural structure in which they
function. The original, peer-reviewed articles and contributions will
focus primarily on innovative ideas and concepts, new discoveries
and improvements, as well as novel applications in the core
technologies of social robotics. Topics of interest include design
philosophies, socially appealing design methodologies, humanrobot
interaction, robot-robot interaction, neurorobotics,
biomedical robotics, robot-ethics in human society and interactive
robotic arts.
Nathalie Jacobs, Publishing Editor, Engineering, at Springer,
said, “It is exciting to be able to play a role in disseminating ideas
and developments in a field that shows so much growth potential
and has so many applications in the real world. To see how
scientific research is translated into new technologies that impact
everyday life at every level is fascinating and worthwhile. This is an
important new journal and we are looking forward to making it a
success.”
