(4) Disconnect the electrical cables from the
temperature sensor:
S Remove the nut and washer from the
electrical connector.
S Remove the cable eye-end from the
connector.
WARNING: DO NOT GET OIL ON YOU. OIL CAN CAUSE SKIN DISEASE.
(5) Replace the oil temperature sensor:
S Remove the sensor.
S Remove and discard the O-ring seal.
S Install a new O-ring seal.
S Install a new sensor.
On the engine accessory housing.
(6) Connect the electrical cable to the sensor:
S Put the electrical cable eye-end in position on
the connector.
S Install the washer and nut onto the electrical
connector.
(7) Connect the airplane battery. Refer to Section 24-31.
(8) Install the engine cowlings. Refer to Section 71-10.
(9) Do a test of the engine oil temperature indicating
system:
S Monitor the oil temperature indication.
S Set the ALT/BAT switch to ON.
S Do an engine ground run-up.
S Shut the engine down.
The indicator must show the likely
ambient temperature of the oil.
Refer to the DA 40 Airplane Flight
Manual. The oil temperature indicator
must show the relevant temperature of
the oil.

(9) Look for oil leaks from the sensor:
S Remove the engine top-cowling.
S Look for oil leaks from the sensor.
S Install the engine top-cowling.
B. Replace the Fuel Flow Sensor

WARNING: MAKE SURE THE ENGINE IS SAFE BEFORE YOU DO ANY WORK
ON IT. IF THE ENGINE STARTS THE PROPELLER CAN CAUSE
INJURY OR DEATH.
(1) Make sure that the engine is safe:
S The ignition switch is set to OFF.
S Set the ALT/BAT switch to OFF.
S The throttle is set to IDLE.
S The mixture control is set to LEAN CUT-OFF.
S Set the fuel shut-off to SHUT-OFF.
(2) Remove the engine cowlings. Refer to Section 71-10.
(3) Disconnect the airplane battery. Refer to Section 24-31.
(4) Disconnect the electrical connector from the
sensor.
Refer to Figure 3.
WARNING: DO NOT GET FUEL ON YOU. FUEL CAN CAUSE SKIN DISEASE.
WARNING: DO NOT ALLOW FIRE NEAR FUEL. FUEL BURNS AND CAN CAUSE

(5) Replace the fuel flow sensor:
S Disconnect the fuel hose from the inlet side of
the fuel flow sensor.
S Disconnect the fuel hose from the outlet side
of the fuel flow sensor.
S Remove the 2 bolts and washers that attach
the fuel flow sensor to the mounting bracket
Move the fuel flow sensor clear of the
airplane.
S Put the new fuel flow sensor into position on
the bracket and install the bolts and washers
that attach the sensor to the bracket.
S Connect the fuel hose to the outlet side of the
fuel flow sensor.
S Connect the fuel hose to the inlet side of the
fuel flow sensor.
Use a suitable container to collect spilt
fuel. Put a cap on open connections.
(6) Connect the electrical cables to the fuel flow
sensor:
S Connect the plug.
(7) Connect the airplane battery. Refer to Section 24-31.
(8) Look for fuel leaks from the sensor:
S Set the ALT/BAT switch to ON.
S Set fuel pump switch to ON.
S Look for fuel leaks, specially in the area of the
fuel flow sensor.
S Set fuel pump switch to OFF.
S Set the ALT/BAT switch to OFF.
(9) Install the engine cowlings. Refer to Section 71-10.

(10) Do a test of the fuel flow indicating system:
S Monitor the fuel flow indicator.
S Set the ALT/BAT switch to ON.
S Do an engine ground run-up.
S Shut down the engine.
The indicator must read zero.
Refer to the DA 40 Airplane Flight
Manual. The indicator must show the
relevant fuel flow.
C. Replace the Cylinder Head Temperature (CHT) Probe
