With the throttle lever on the IDLE stop
at the injector, there must be at least
3 mm (0.125 in) clearance (bounce)
between the lever in the engine control
assembly and the cover plate.
(8) Move the throttle control lever between IDLE and
FULL:
S Make sure that the lever moves freely with no
restriction.
(9) Do items 6 to 8 again as necessary to get the
correct values.
(10) Do an inspection of the control connections which
you disconnected. If necessary for your
airworthiness authority, do a second inspection of
the controls.
(11) Install the cables to the spark plugs. Torque to 12.4 to 13.6 Nm (110 - 120
in.lb).
(12) Connect the airplane battery. Refer to Section 24-31.
(13) Install the engine cowlings. Refer to Section 71-10.
(14) Do an engine test. Refer to the DA 40 Airplane Flight
Manual.

B. Mixture Control Range of Movement Test

WARNING: DO NOT STAND WITHIN THE DANGER AREA OF THE PROPELLER
IF THE ENGINE STARTS, THE PROPELLER CAN CAUSE DEATH OR
INJURY TO PERSONS.
WARNING: YOU MUST MAKE SURE THAT THE ENGINE IS SAFE BEFORE YOU
DO WORK ON THE ENGINE CONTROLS. IF THE PROPELLER
TURNS IT CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.
(1) Make sure that the engine is safe:
S Set the ignition switch to OFF.
S Set the throttle to IDLE.
S Set the mixture control to LEAN CUT-OFF
(2) Remove the engine cowlings. Refer to Section 71-10.
(3) Disconnect the airplane battery. Refer to Section 24-31.
(4) Disconnect the spark plug cables from the spark
plugs.
(5) Move the mixture control lever between RICH
and LEAN CUT-OFF.
S Make sure the lever moves freely with no
restrictions.
(6) Set the mixture control lever to RICH and hold it
in position.
S Make sure that the mixture lever at the
injector hits the stop. If necessary, adjust the
Bowden cable outer sheath at the support
bracket at the bottom of the engine.
With the mixture lever on the stop at the
injector, there must be at least 3 mm
(0.125 in) clearance (bounce) between
the lever in the engine control assembly
and the cover plate.

injector hits the CUT-OFF stop. If necessary,
adjust the Bowden cable outer sheath at the
support bracket at the bottom of the engine.
With the mixture lever on the LEAN
CUT-OFF stop at the injector, there
must be at least 3 mm (0.125 in)
clearance (bounce) between the lever
in the engine control assembly and the
cover plate.
(8) Move the mixture control lever between RICH
and LEAN CUT-OFF:
S Make sure that the lever moves freely with no
restriction.

Section 76-01
Engine Controls - TAE 125 Diesel Engine
1. General
This Section tells you about the DA 40 with the TAE 125 Diesel engine installed. The system has only
one control lever. An electrical cable connects the power lever to the engine control system.
This Section gives you data on the power lever installation. Refer to Section 73-01 for data on the
engine control system. You cannot repair the engine control system except to replace the power lever.
2. Description and Operation
Figure 1 shows the schematic diagram of the engine control system. The system has a Full Authority
Digital Engine Control (FADEC) System. In this AMM we call it the engine control system.
The system has two independent computers, either of which can provide all control functions for the
engine and propeller. The system has these main parts:
) Two digital engine control units (ECU A and ECU B located in one box below the pilot’s seat).
