(5) Connect the electrical cables to the ignition
switch.
Refer to Chapter 92 for the Wiring
Diagrams.
(6) Move the switch and mounting plate into position
in the instrument panel.
(7) Install the four pan-head screws which attach the
mounting plate to the instrument panel.

(8) Do a test for correct operation of the ignition
switch:
S Disconnect the instrument panel connector at
the rear of the instrument panel.
S Set the ignition switch to OFF.
S Set the ignition switch to R.
S Set the ignition switch to L.
S Set the ignition switch to BOTH.
S Set the ignition switch to START.
S Set the ignition switch to OFF.
S Reconnect the instrument panel connector at
the rear of the panel.
Do a resistance test between each
switch cable and ground for each switch
setting.
Connector 2410. Refer to Chapter 92
for the wiring diagrams.
Both ignition switch cables zero ohms.
Left zero ohms, right M ohms.
Left M ohms, right zero ohms.
Both cables M ohms.
Both cables M ohms.
(9) Install the instrument panel cover. Refer to Section 31-10.
(10) Connect the spark plug cables to the spark plugs. Torque to 12.4 - 13.6 Nm (110 - 120
in.lb).
(11) Connect the airplane battery. Refer to Section 24-31.
(12) Install the engine cowlings. Refer to Section 71-00.
(13) Do an engine run-up. Refer to the DA 40 Airplane Flight
Manual.

Air Cooling - Lycoming Engine
1. General
This Section gives you the data for the air cooling system for airplanes with the Lycoming engine
installed. It gives you the maintenance practices to remove/install the baffle. Refer to the Lycoming
Maintenance Manual for data about the inter-cylinder cooling baffle. Figure 1 shows the air cooling
baffle.
2. Description/Operation
The baffle controls the cooling air flow. Ram air enters the cooling baffle through the intake in the
engine cowling. The front duct of the baffle sends the cooling air into the space over the top of the
