Trouble-Shooting
1. General
The table below lists the defects you could have with the integrated-engine-indication system. For
more data on the system refer to the equipment manufacturer’s manual.
If you have the trouble detailed in the Trouble column read across to the Possible Cause column. Then
do the repair given in the Repair column.
Trouble Possible Cause Repair
No indication on any of the
indicators with the engine
operating or with the ALT/BAT
switch set to ON.
No 24 volt supply to the
integrated-engine-indication
system.
Integrated-engine-indicator
system indicator-panel
inoperative.
Make sure that the circuitbreaker
for the engine
instruments is set. Do a
voltage test for 24 volts at pin
13 of connector J4 at the
system data processing unit.
If there is a 24 volt supply to
the system then replace the
indicator panel.
One of the indicators does not
indicate correctly.
Sensor/Transducer defective. Do a test for continuity of the
cables for the relevant sensor.
If the cables are serviceable,
then replace the sensor. Refer
to Chapter 92 for the Wiring
Diagrams.

Maintenance Practices
1. General
These maintenance practices tell you how to replace the integrated-engine-instrument panel. It also
tells you how to replace the sensors and transducers for the engine indicators.
2. Remove/Install the Indicator Panel
A. Remove the Indicator Panel
Detail Steps/Work Items Key Items/References
WARNING: MAKE SURE THE ENGINE IS SAFE BEFORE YOU DO ANY WORK
ON IT. IF THE ENGINE STARTS THE PROPELLER CAN CAUSE
INJURY OR DEATH.
(1) Make sure that the engine is safe:
S The ignition switch is set to OFF.
S The ALT/BAT switch is set to OFF.
S The throttle is set to IDLE.
S The mixture control is set to LEAN CUT-OFF.
(2) Remove the engine cowlings. Refer to Section 71-10.
(3) Disconnect the airplane battery. Refer to Section 24-31.
(4) Remove the instrument panel cover. Refer to Section 31-10.
(5) Disconnect the electrical connector from the
display unit.
At the rear of the display unit.
(6) Remove the 4 screws which attach the display
unit to the instrument panel.
From the front of the instrument panel.
Hold the display unit!
(7) Move the display unit forward and clear of the
instrument panel, then clear of the airplane.

B. Install the Indicator Panel
Detail Steps/Work Items Key Items/References
(1) Put the indicator panel in position in the
instrument panel.
From the rear of the panel. Take care to
correctly locate the mode buttons at the
bottom of the indicator panel correctly.
(2) Connect the electrical connector to the rear of the
indicator panel.
(3) Install instrument panel cover. Refer to Section 31-10.
(4) Connect the airplane battery. Refer to Section 24-31.
(5) Install the engine cowlings. Refer to Section 71-10.
(6) Do a test of the indicator panel:
S Set the ALT/BAT switch to ON.
S Set the ALT/BAT switch to OFF.
The indicators must give the correct
indications.
(7) Do an engine ground run-up and monitor the
engine indicator gauge indications.
Refer to the DA 40 Airplane Flight
Manual. The indicators must give the
relevant indications.
3. Replace an Engine Indicator Gauge Sensor/Transducer
A. Replace the Oil Temperature Sensor
