2.5 INLET COWL
2.5.1 Inlet Cowl Description
The inlet cowl consists of an aluminum lip skin, an outer Kevlar/graphite panel, and an acoustically treated inner panel. Fastened to the engine front cowl flange, the inlet cowl may remain attached during the removal of the engine from the strut.

2.6 FAN COWL
2.6.1 Fan Cowl Description
The fan cowl is composed of two curved Kevlar/graphite panels hinged at the top and attached to the strut. These panels can be lifted 558 from the closed position for access to the engine during maintenance. Telescoping hold-open rods are built-in between the cowl panels and the engine.

2.7 THRUST REVERSER
2.7.1 Thrust Reverser Description
The thrust reverser is in two halves. Each half consists of a translating sleeve, fan duct, cascade flow control device and actuating system. Hinge pins and hinge fittings connect each half to the strut. Each half is opened hydraulically by a hand-operated pump for access to the engine during maintenance. Built-in hold-open rods should be used to support the open thrust reverser when working on the engine. Latches are located on the lower edges for locking the halves together.
The translating sleeve is the outer panel of the thrust reverser. It is moved aft in the reverse thrust configuration to expose the cascade area and actuate the blocker doors.
