Companies involved in the development of the engine other than Pratt & Whitney Aircraft are Motoren-und Turbinen-Union (MTU) of Germany, responsible for the low pressure turbine and exhaust case; and Fiat Aviazione S.p.A. of Italy, responsible for the accessory drive unit. The nacelle is designed and fabricated by The Boeing Company.
The term PW2000 Series is used extensively throughout this document to indicate the PW2037, PW2040 and PW2043. For planning purposes, weights, dimensions and handling of PW2037, PW2040, and PW2043 engines can be considered the same.

1.3 ENGINE DESIGNATION
1.3.1 Nomenclature System
To simplify the naming of its new engines, Pratt & Whitney Aircraft has adapted a four-digit numbering system to describe the engine. The first two digits denote the series and the last two digits represent the sea level takeoff thrust range in thousands of pounds thrust.

1.4 COMMONALITY
1.4.1 PW/RR Common Features
At the customer’s option, the Pratt & Whitney PW2000 Series of engines, as well as the Rolls-Royce RB211-535
Series engines, are available to power the 757 airplane.
Some features common to all these engines are as follows:

.
Fan case mounted high speed gear box.

.
Fixed cascade thrust reverser (reversing fan flow only).

.
Built-in fail-safe design for engine and strut wing mount system.

.
Continuous fuel de-icing.

2 POWERPLANT
2.1 INSTALLATION
2.1.1 Installation Description
The engine/strut installation which mounts the engine to the wing is configured to place the power plant forward of the wing. Relative to the airplane coordinate axis system, the engine vertical axis is toed-in 1.58 and has a nose-down tilt of 1.78.
The engine is mounted to the strut at the aft face of the forward fan case and at the aft flange of the exhaust fan case.

2.2 ENGINE BUILD GROUPS
2.2.1 General
The PW2000 Series engine design utilizes the Build Group concept of construction. Engine Build Groups are self-contained units each having a specific function and operating as a component part or unit of the engine. As such, they have a major effect on the ease of engine maintenance. This concept permits the independent removal and installation of major engine sections, allowing for the rapid replacement of the Build Group units. This feature also provides accessibility to the internal parts and accessories.
