3.5 ENGINE CHANGE TOOL KIT
3.5.1 Engine Change Tool Kit Description
An engine change tool kit, B71024, is available. It includes adapters for engine installation/removal as well as torque wrenches and sockets. The kit is compatible with the bootstrap hoisting system.

3.6 NACELLE COMPONENT REMOVAL
3.6.1 Nacelle Component Removal Description
INLET COWL
The engine may be removed with the inlet cowl attached. However, the inlet cowl may be separated from the main engine body by the use of an overhead sling attached to four GSE points on the side of the cowl as shown in Figure 3-6.
The sling consists of a tubular steel spreader bar weldment with hoist lugs on each end and a centrally located lifting eye. Dropline assemblies containing cable hoists and nylon strap combinations are attached to the right side of the spreader bar.
One fixed cable length strap dropline is attached to the forward left side and one cable hoist and strap combination are attached to the aft left side of the spreader bar. These features provide for a 908 pitch capability as well as a limited roll capability.
The inlet cowl can also be removed or installed using the dolly shown in Figure 3-7. This dolly is raised or lowered by changing the height of the three legs. Roll and pitch adjustments can be made by adjusting the individual legs.

FAN COWL REMOVAL
When using the bootstrap for engine removal, the fan cowls are opened and removed from the hinges. Due to the light weight of the fan cowl, two maintenance personnel can hold the fan cowl while a third person removes the hinge pins.
THRUST REVERSER REMOVAL
For engine maintenance, the thrust reverser is opened by a special hydraulically-operated hand pump (Figure 3-8) which activates a built-in hydraulic actuator on each duct segment. At its fully open position, an airplane mounted hold-open rod mechanically keeps the cowl open.
