For engine removal with the thrust reverser installed, the thrust reverser is opened hydraulically, as mentioned above, but is held open by a lockout device placed on the actuator as shown in Figure 3-9. This method holds the cowl open and isolates the thrust reverser from the engine as the engine is lowered.

The sling shown in Figure 3-10 is used to remove and install the thrust reverser halves. It consists of a lifting bar and two end fittings which attach to the forward and aft edges of the thrust reverser at GSE hard points. The sling is used with an overhead crane or a wheeled boom hoist which has sufficient height and lifting capacity. Care is required to avoid striking the wing lower surface with the sling during removal of the inboard thrust reverser.
The stand shown in Figure 3-10 is used to support the thrust reverser for assembly, disassembly and test procedures. The stand will support the unit in a vertical or horizontal position. Fork-lift channels are provided for transportation. The stand includes the controls and fluid connections required for thrust reverser actuation during functional check.

The translating sleeve can be removed separately from the thrust reverser. The sling shown in Figure 3-11 attaches to the translating sleeve at four GSE hard points. These are not suitable for thrust reverser removal. The sling and translating sleeve are lifted by a boom hoist.

CORE COWL
Hard points are incorporated on the core cowl exterior at Nacelle Water Line 110 for attachment of a sling. The core cowl is lifted for installation and removal by a boom hoist (See Figure 3-12).

The core cowl is held open for engine maintenance by a tool which attaches to the strut at the aft bootstrap hard points as shown in Figure 3-13. The tool uses the same hard points on the core cowl as the installation/ removal sling.

EXHAUST SLEEVE REMOVAL
The exhaust sleeve has no GSE hard points for the attachment of installation/removal equipment. The exhaust sleeve is strapped to a cradle which conforms to the sleeve contours and maintains it in the proper attitude for installation or removal. The cradle is adapted to an engine accessory lift fixture as shown in Figure 3-14.
