PRECOOLER
The precooler is part of the pneumatic system. It is located in the outboard side of the nacelle support strut. Precooler removal involves loosening and removing two sections of duct and the precooler mounting bolts. The handling equipment (Figure 4-3) consists of handles that mount in place of the ducts, using the duct V-band clamps, and a piece of heavy-duty carpet to protect underlying components.

5 ENGINE TRANSPORTATION
5.1 GENERAL
5.1.1 Engine Transportation Overview
The PW2000 Series engine can be shipped via air or truck. Truck transport on air suspension (air ride) tractor and trailers is mandatory. Transportation stands are built with retractable casters to enable local ground mobility at speeds limited to 2-5 mph (3.2-8 km per hour). A split-engine transport system can be designed and fabricated which allows engine transport in standard body cargo airplanes and the lower cargo compartment of wide body airplanes.
The primary ground handling points used to support the engine during transportation are defined on installation drawings available from Pratt & Whitney Aircraft.

5.2 SHIPPING METHODS
5.2.1 Shipping Methods Overview
The potential for either full engine or split-engine air transport has been provided in the design of the PW2000 series engine. The major assemblies, with the exception of the fan cases, may be shipped in the lower cargo compartment of many narrow body passenger airplanes. All of the major assemblies will fit in wide body passenger airplane cargo compartments.
Figure 5-1 identifies airplanes with the capability for engine transport. This is based upon airplane door and compartment measurements. Further assessments must be made regarding floor loading, etc. when selecting a particular airplane for engine transport. Figure 5-1 shows a sampling of airplanes that could potentially be used for engine transport.
Engine transport system specifications have been developed to define the requirements for the design and fabrication of engine transport equipment.
