Subpart H–Airworthiness Certi.cates
FAR 21.171 : Applicability.
This subpart prescribes procedural requirements for the issue of airworthiness certi-.cates.
FAR 21.173 : Eligibility.
[Any registered ownerofaU.S.-registered aircraft(orthe agentofthe owner) may applyfor an airworthiness certi.catefor that aircraft.An applicationfor an airworthiness certi.cate mustbe madein aform and manner acceptable to theAdministrator, and may be submitted to any FAA o.ce.] Amdt. 21-26, E.. 9/30/69
FAR 21.175 : Airworthiness certi.cates : classi.cation.
(a)
Standard airworthiness certi.cates are airworthiness certi.cates issued for aircraft type certi.cated in the normal, utility, acrobatic, commuter, or transport category, and for manned free balloons, and for aircraft designated by the Administrator as special classes of aircraft.
(b)
Special airworthiness certi.cates are [primary] restricted, limited, and provisional airworthiness certi.cates, special .ight permits and experimental certi.cates.

FAR 21.177 : Amendment or modi.cation.
An airworthiness certi.cate may be amended or modi.ed only upon application to the Administrator.
FAR 21.179 : Transferability.
An airworthiness certi.cate is transferred with the aircraft.
FAR 21.181 : Duration.
(a)
Unless sooner surrendered, suspended, revoked, or a termination date is otherwise establishedby theAdministrator, airworthiness certi.cates are e.ective asfollows :
(1)
Standard airworthiness certi.cates,[special airworthiness certi.cates-primary category], and airworthiness certi.cates issued for restricted or limited cate-goryaircraft are e.ective aslong as the maintenance,preventive maintenance, and alterations areperformedin accordance withParts43 and91 of this chap-ter and the aircraft are registered in the United States.
(2)
Aspecial.ightpermitise.ectivefortheperiod of timespeci.edinthepermit.
(3)
An experimental certi.catefor research and development, showing compliance with regulations, crew training, or market surveys is e.ective for one year after the date of issue or renewal unless a shorter period is prescribed by the Administrator. The duration of amateur-built, exhibition, and air-racing experimental certi.cates will be unlimited unless the Administrator .nds for good cause that a speci.c period should be established.
