[Each holder or licensee of a U.S. type certi.cate for an aircraft engine or propeller manufactured in a foreign country with which the United States has an agreement for the acceptance of those products for export and import, shall furnish with each such aircraft engine or propeller imported into this country, a certi.cate of airworthiness for exportissuedby the country of manufacture certifying that theindividual aircraft engine or propeller–
(a)
Conforms to its U.S. type certi.cate and is in condition for safe operation; and
(b)

FAR21.502:[Approval of materials,parts, andappliances.]
(a)
[A material, part, or appliance, manufactured in a foreign country with which the United States has an agreement for the acceptance of those materials, parts, or appliances for export and import, is considered to meet the requirements for ap-provalintheFederalAviationRegulationswhenthe countryof manufactureissues a certi.cate of airworthinessfor export certifying that theindividual material,part, or appliance meets those requirements, unless the Administrator .nds, based on thetechnicaldatasubmittedunderparagraph(b) ofthissection,thatthe mate-rial, part, or appliance is otherwise not consistent with the intent of the Federal Aviation Regulations.
(b)
An applicant for approval of a material, part, or appliance must, upon request, submit to the Administrator any technical data respecting that material, part, or appliance.]

FAR21.601 :[Applicability.]
(a)
[This subpart prescribes–
(1)
Procedural requirements for the issue of Technical Standard Order authoriza-tions;
(2)
Rules governing the holders of Technical Standard Order authorizations; and
(3)
Procedural requirements for the issuance of a letter of Technical Standard Order design approval.
(b)
For the purpose of this subpart–
(1)
ATechnicalStandardOrder(referredtointhisSubpartas ”TSO”) isissued by the Administrator and is a minimum performance standard for speci.ed articles(forthepurpose of this subpart, articles means materials,parts,pro-cesses, or appliances) used on civil aircraft.
(2)
ATSO authorizationis anFAAdesign andproduction approvalissued tothe manufacturer of an article which has been found to meet a speci.c TSO.
