(e)
An application for a change to a type certi.cate for a transport category aircraft is e.ective for 5 years, and an application for a change to any other type certi.cate is e.ective for 3 years. If the change has not been approved, or if it is clear that it will not be approved under the time limit established under this paragraph, the applicant may do either of the following :
(1)
File a new application for a change to the type certi.cate and comply with all the provisions of paragraph (a) of this section applicable to an original application for a change.
(2)
Filefor an extension ofthe original application and comply with theprovisions ofparagraph(a) ofthis section.The applicant mustthen select a new appli-cationdate.Thenew applicationdatemay notprecedethedatethe changeis approvedby morethanthetimeperiod established underthisparagraph(e).
(f)
For aircraft certi.cated under Secs. 21.17(b), 21.24, 21.25, and 21.27 the airworthi-ness requirements applicable to the category of the product in e.ect on the date of the application for the change include each airworthiness requirement that the Administrator .nds to be appropriate for the type certi.cation of the aircraft in accordance with those sections.]

Subpart E–Supplemental Type Certi.cates
FAR 21.111 : Applicability.
This subpart prescribes procedural requirements for the issue of supplemental type certi.cates.
FAR 21.113 : Requirement of supplemental type certi.cate.
Any person who alters a product by introducing a major change in type design, not great enough to require a new application for a type certi.cate under Sec. 21.19, shall apply to theAdministratorfor a supplemental type certi.cate, except that theholder of a typecerti.catefortheproduct may applyforamendment of the original typecerti.cate. The application must be made in a form and manner prescribed by the Administrator.
FAR 21.115 : Applicable requirements.
(a)
[Eachapplicant for a supplemental type certi.cate must show that the altered pro-duct meets applicable requirements speci.ed in Sec. 21.101 and, in the case of an acoustical change described in Sec. 21.93(b), show compliance with the applicable noise requirements ofpart36 of this chapter and,in the case of an emissions change described in Sec. 21.93(c), show compliance with the applicable fuel venting and exhaust emissions requirements of part 34 of this chapter.]
(b)
Each applicant for a supplemental type certi.cate must meet Secs. 21.33 and 21.53 with respect to each change in the type design.

FAR 21.117 : Issue of supplemental type certi.cates.
(a)
An applicant is entitled to a supplemental type certi.cate if he meets the require-ments of Secs. 21.113 and 21.115.
(b)
A supplemental type certi.cate consists of–
(1)
The approval by the Administrator of a change in the type design of the product; and
(2)
The type certi.cate previously issued for the product.
FAR 21.119 : Privileges.
The holder of a supplemental type certi.cate may–
(a)
In the case of aircraft, obtain airworthiness certi.cates;
(b)
In the case ofotherproducts, obtain approvalforinstallation on certi.cated aircraft; and
(c)
Obtain aproduction certi.cateforthe changeinthetypedesignthat was approved by that supplemental type certi.cate.
