Detail Steps/Work Items Key Items/References
(1) Preparation: S Liberally apply corrosion protection to these items: S The inside of the journal assembly. S The shank of the lock bolt. S The shank of the bolt which attaches the elastomer pack to the engine mount. Refer to Figure 1. Use LPS.
(2) Put the nose gear strut in position in the airplane from below.
(3) Expand the journals of the unit to engage the bearings in the fuselage. Refer to Figure 1.
(4) Install the lock bolt in the journal bearing unit.
(5) Connect the elastomer pack to the engine mount. Refer to Figure 1.
(6) Adjust the nose wheel steering friction. Refer to Paragraph 5.
(7) Remove the trestle from the front fuselage.
(8) Lower the nose wheel to the floor. Remove the weights from the rear fuselage.
(9) Install the strut fairing: S Put the strut fairing in position on the strut. S Install the bolts, nuts and washers to the support bracket at the forward bottom side of the cover. S Install the bolts, nuts and washers at the trailing edge. Optional, see O.M 40-105. Take care of the padding on the nose gear strut.
(10) Install the engine cowling. Refer to Section 71-10 or 71-11.

(1) Use weights to hold the rear fuselage down with the nose wheel clear of the ground. Use a strap around the fuselage.
(2) Put a padded trestle under the front fuselage just aft of the nose mounting.
(3) Remove the engine cowling. Refer to Section 71-10 or 71-11..
(4) Remove the strut fairing (if installed): S Remove the bolts, nuts and washers at the trailing edge. S Remove the bolts, nuts and washers from the support bracket at the forward bottom side of the cover. S Move the strut fairing clear of the airplane. Optional, see O.M 40-105.
(5) Disconnect the elastomer pack from the engine mount. Hold the nose-gear strut. Refer to Figure 2.
(6) Remove the 4 bolts on each side attaching the left hand and right hand bearing plates.
(7) Remove the assembly from the airplane.

(1) Install the bearing plates on the lower bearing. Refer to Figure 2. Bearing plates must be installed on journals of trunnions. Cover the plates with Mastinox 6856K.
