3.8.2 Controls and Functions. The AN/ARC-222 radio is controlled by the AMS with the CDU (Figure 3-2), or in emergency by a control panel (Figure 3-13). Control screens allow the pilot to choose frequency and mode of transmission (Figure 3-12). Operator functions are to change band, transmission frequency and mode, and edit and establish preset modes and frequencies in normal mode. Bands associated with this radio are:

3.8.2.1 COM Summary Screen. The COM SUM screen allows the operator to perform all primary radio con-trols. SK-3 selects COM 3 (AN/ARC-222) for edit. Soft key labels and functions visible when SK-3 is selected are:

gSK-3 Selects and then toggles between COM 3 frequency and preset .eld for editing.
gLAST Restores the last manually tuned frequency, while saving the current settings. This function saves one setting per band of operation.
EMERGs Swaps current frequency with the band based guard frequency for radio that has been selected for edit.
BANDg Access Band selection screen for radio that has been selected for edit.
SETTINGSg Access Settings screen for radio that has been selected for edit.
3.8.2.2 Band Screen. The current operating band is shown in inverse video. When the pilot pushes a soft key for a new mode, that mode is selected, and the screen re-turns to either the COM summary screen or the Setting screen previously in use.

3.8.3 Emergency Controls and Functions. The emergency control panel for the COM 3 VHF radio set is located on the lower console. Functions COM 3 in emer-gency operation are limited to FM single channel, VHF single channel, Marine and Police band. No crypto func-tions are available. Switch positions that have no function in this operation are listed as not connected. The function of each control is as follows:
