(d) Put a sheet of lead-coated fabric between the layers of the
blanket if it is necessary.
NOTE: The lead-coated fabric must have 0.25-inch diameter____
holes. If the insulation blanket width is less than 12
inches, there must be one hole for each 10-inch length of
the blanket. If the blanket width is more than 12
inches, there must be two holes for each 10-inch length
of the blanket.
(e) Cut the fabric covering and lead-coated fabric, if it is
necessary.
(f) Use a staple to connect the layers of the blanket to ease
handling during stiching, taping or heat sealing of blankets.
NOTE: The staples must be between the stitches and the____
outer edge of the blanket. The staples must not show on
the completed blanket. Make sure the staples go through
the inboard and outboard covering and the fiberglass
insulation only.
(g) Stitch the blanket edges with between four and six stitches for
each inch of blanket edge.
(h) Close the edges and the cutouts of the blanket with fabric
strips, with the steps that follow:
1) On edges with flaps, make the flaps the same width as the
damaged blanket.
2) On edges that have the same thickness for the whole
blanket, use cement to attach the nylon binding.
3) On edges with a binding that is sewn, use 4-cord cotton
thread with between four and six stitches for each inch.
4) Install nylon fabric grommets through the holes in the
blanket.
5) Bond the grommets to the blanket with BMS 5-30 cement.
(i) On ceiling panels, seal the stitching on the outboard side of
the blanket with a continuous bead of BMS 5-30 cement.
NOTE: You can make the cement thin with MEK if it is____
necessary.
