Repairs of Small Scratches and Unwanted Marks

 CAUTION: DO NOT RUB THROUGH THE TEDLAR WHEN YOU REPAIR THE SMALL
_______ SCRATCHES OR UNWANTED MARKS. YOU WILL CAUSE MORE EXPENSIVE REPAIRS TO BE NECESSARY IF YOU RUB THROUGH THE TEDLAR.
 (1)  
Rub the surface lightly with the abrasive paper until the area is not rough.

 (2)  
Polish the damaged area with the buffing wheel and buffing compound


 until the area is as glossy as the adjacent areas.Repairs of Glossy Areas

 CAUTION:_______DO NOT RUB THE TEDLAR LAYER OFF THE SURFACE. IF YOU REMOVE THE TEDLAR LAYER, YOU MUST DO REPAIR WORK TO REPLACE THE TEDLAR.
 (1)  Use the buffing wheel until the area is glossy like the
 adjacent areas.Repair the Pattern of the Tedlar

 (3)  To reduce the gloss of the silk screen ink, lightly apply the tartan clear acrylic with a spray gun.
 I. Repair Small Holes and Gouges

 (1)  Apply BMS 5-136 filler to the area with damage.
 NOTE: Apply more filler than is necessary to make sure the gouge is
____ fully filled. The unwanted filler is removed in the subsequent steps.

 CAUTION:_______DO NOT RUB THROUGH THE TEDLAR THAT IS NOT DAMAGED. IF YOU REMOVE TEDLAR THAT DOES NOT HAVE DAMAGE, MORE REPAIR WORK IS NECESSARY.

When the filler is hard, rub the area with abrasive paper until the filler is level with the adjacent surfaces.

 (3)  
Use these steps to make a silicone embossing pad of the surface that is adjacent to the area you will repair.

 (a)  
Clean the surface with a clean cheescloth soaked with aliphatic naphtha.

 (b)  
Dry the surface with a clean cheescloth.

 (c)  
Make a frame, approximately 3/8-inch wide by 1/2-inch high, around the clean surface.

 


 NOTE: Use wood, clay, or high temperature vacuum sealant tape
____
 for the frame.

 (d)  Apply a thin layer of prepared silicone rubber on the textured surface in the frame with a brush. Continue to use the brush until you cannot see air bubbles.
 NOTE: Almost all brands, types, or colors of castable silicone
____ rubber are satisfactory, but not the dark red types which contain finely divided iron oxide. Dow Corning Silastic RTV "B", "E", 587, or 93072, and General Electric RTV41 or RTV61 are preferred. Prepare the silicone rubber with the manufacturer's instructions.
