techniques for computing
advanced reliability metrics.
Relex Weibull offers the latest in
life data analysis tools with an
intuitive, completely redesigned
user interface. Read more about Relex Weibull on
page 6. Relex OpSim also received an overhaul to
combine the power of reliability block diagrams
(RBD) with optimization and simulation analysis
techniques into one intuitive interface designed for
advanced system analysis.
New Assembly Libraries
Relex 2009 introduces Assembly Libraries: a new
way to encapsulate your data at the assembly level
for future use. Create a library file to save entire
assemblies and their component parts, or to save
entire systems, and search them easily for future
use. Read more about this feature on page 5.
New Prediction Standards
Relex 2009 incorporates the well known FIDES
Guide 2004 into its extensive list of supported
prediction standards. The FIDES Group is a
consortium of several international organizations
including Airbus, Eurocopter, Thales, Nexter
Electronics, and MBDA Missile Systems. This
standard was developed based on the physics of
failures methodology to provide realistic reliability
predictions during electronic product development
and to aid in “design for reliability" efforts.
New Interface Features
Enhanced Web-based analysis
tools in iRelex (formerly
Relex iArchitect) support zero
client FMEA and FRACAS
applications in Relex 2009.
New graph and filter tools,
including a graph wizard,
new customization options
for login and startup pages,
and support for direct copy to
Microsoft® Excel functionality
are all new additions to iRelex.
Throughout Relex 2009, additional new features
include support for filtering in the Relex System
Tree, a Choice List Wizard to customize data entry,
Microsoft Office 2007-compatible outputs, and
support for Microsoft Windows 64-bit Operating
System and Microsoft SQL Server 2008. New Fault
Tree and FRACAS graphing tools are among the
many other interface updates.

Fall 2009 VOLUME 21 NUMBER 3 A Quarterly Reliability Excellence Newsletter
Successful implementation of a corrective
action process requires personnel collaboration,
data security, workflow flexibility, and
system standardization, all of which can
seem like contradictory goals. Relex FRACAS
uniquely meets these diverse needs by using
Web-based technology to maximize the
benefits of any corrective action process.
A FRACAS, or Failure Reporting, Analysis,
and Corrective Action System, is an
organization-wide process for tracking
failure or incident
reports and the
corrective actions
taken to address
them. It is often
implemented
to comply with
industry standards
or customer
requirements,
to improve the
overall quality
and reliability of a
product, or to determine changes needed in
the next generation of products.
To be most beneficial to the work of
an organization, a FRACAS must be
implemented organization-wide yet
customized to the work of various groups,
widely accessible yet extremely secure,
flexible enough to address a wide range of
corrective action processes yet easy to use,
and standardized for dependable recording
yet adaptable to an organization’s changing
needs. The Web-based technology available
in Relex FRACAS offers solutions for each of
these seemingly contradictory requirements
in one uniquely flexible, easy-to-use, yet
powerful tool that is an integrated part of the
Relex suite of reliability analysis software.
Meeting the Need for Collaboration
A successful FRACAS is by nature a
collaborative process. Often, the information
necessary to gather, record, investigate,
