- park the aircraft in a well ventilated area and, to avoid explosure, never weld, use a blowtorch, solder, steam clean, bake aircraft finish, or use excessive amounts of heat on, or in, the immediate area of any part of the air conditioning system, or refrigerant supply tank, full or empty, while they are closed to atmosphere.
- the refrigerant service container has a safe strength. However, if handled incorrectly, it will explode.
Therefore, always follow the instructions on the label. In particular, never store it in a hot location [above 126°F (52°C)] or drop it from a great height.
The above precautions are essential in handling of R 134 A refrigerant and their strict observation is required along with a sufficient training. Therefore, it is important that only a well trained serviceman should be allowed to handle the refrigerant.

3. INITIAL INSTALLATION
The compressor is charged at the factory by the supplier with oil (TB 05-923). Compressor capacity is 5 -± 1.0 oz (150 ± 30 crn3).
The following operations necessary during installation on aircraft are :
- leak check of hose system - refer to 21-55-00,
- refrigerant charging - refer to 12-15-01,
- oil level - refer to 12-15-04.

REFRIGERANT CHARGING
SERVICING
CAUTION : DURING SERVICING, USE CAUTION TO KEEP AIR AND MOISTURE FROM GETTING INTO REFRIGERANT SYSTEM. WHEN AIR ENTERS THE SYSTEM, ALL REFRIGERANT MUST BE EVACUATED FROM SYSTEM PRIOR TO CHARGING NEW REFRIGERANT. AIR IN REFRIGERANT HAS THE FOLLOWING DELETERIOUS EFFECTS :
SINCE THE CONDENSATION TEMPERATURE OF THE AIR IS EXTREMELY LOW, THE AIR WILL NOT BE CONDENSED WITH THE REFRIGERANT IN THE CONDENSER. CONSEQUENTLY, THE EFFECTIVE THERMAL TRANSMISSION AREA OF THE CONDENSER WILL BE REDUCED AND THE AMOUNT OF REFRIGERANT GAS TO BE CONDENSED WILL BE REDUCED.
THE PRESSURE RISE WILL BECOME PROPORTIONAL TO THE VOLUME OF THE AIR IN THE SYSTEM.
WHEN AIR AND REFRIGERANT ARE MIXED IN THE SYSTEM, A CORROSIVE CHEMICAL REACTION WILL OCCUR WHICH WILL ADVERSELY AFFECT THE ALUMINIUM, COPPER, IRON AND OTHER MATERIALS IN THE SYSTEM.
1. SYSTEM CHARGING (Figure 301 and Table 301)
A. Tools and consumable materials
