If the N1 target data from the FMCS is NCD or not valid, the reference readout shows dashes.
Thrust Reverser Message
The REV message shows when the thrust reverser (T/R) operates. It is amber in color when the T/R extends more than 10%. It changes to green in color when the T/R extends more than 90%. When the REV message shows, it replaces the reference N1 readout for that engine.

737-600/700/800/900 TRAINING MANUAL CDS -- ENGINE DISPLAY - N1 INDICATION Thermal Anti-Ice Indication
The TAI message shows when engine cowl thermal anti-ice is set to on. In normal operation the message is green in color. If the cowl anti-ice valve does not go to the commanded position in eight seconds, the message shows in amber.

CDS -- ENGINE DISPLAY - EGT INDICATION Engine Exhaust Gas Temperature Indication
The exhaust gas temperature (EGT) indications for the main engines show below the N1 indications on the upper display unit (DU). The EGT value shows as a digital and analog indication.
In the normal operational range, these indications are white in color:
-Digital readout
-Highlight box
-Analog scale
-Analog pointer.
The area behind the analog pointer is a gray shade.
If EGT gets to the amber band limit, the white indications change to amber. If the EGT gets to the redline limit, the indications change from amber to red.
The EGT start limit is the maximum temperature limit during an engine start on the ground. It shows as a tick mark on the EGT scale for these conditions:
-Airplane is on the ground
-Engines are off
-Fire switch is not on.

Engine Fail Message
The engine failure message shows when there is an engine malfunction. It shows on the EGT indication and is amber in color.
The ENG FAIL message shows for these conditions:
-The engines are at idle or above
-The start levers are at the idle position
-N2 speed decreases below idle.

CDS -- ENGINE DISPLAY - FUEL QUANTITY INDICATIONS
Fuel Quantity Indication
The fuel quantity indication for the wing and center tanks show as a digital and analog indication. These are white in color:
-Digital readout
-Highlight box around the digital readout
-Analog scale
-Analog tape.
The analog indication is a scale with equally spaced indices that start at 0% full and end at 100% full. Actual fuel quantity shows by a white tape that extends around the scale.
The fuel quantity indication system gives alerts for these non-normal conditions:
-Low fuel quantity
-Fuel imbalance
-Fuel configuration.
For non-normal conditions in a specific fuel tank, the tank display shows in amber with the specific message below the digital readout.
The LOW message shows that there is less than 2000 lbs (907 kgs) in one of the main tanks.
The IMBAL message shows when there is a difference of greater than 1000 lbs (453 kgs) between main tank 1 and main tank 2.
The CONFIG message shows if there is more than 1600 lbs (725 kgs) of fuel in the center tank, the two center tank boost pumps outputs are low pressure (< 18 PSIG), and at least one main engine is on.
If fuel quantity data from the fuel quantity processor unit (FQPU) is not valid, the indication is blank, and only the analog scale indices stay.

CDS -- ENGINE DISPLAY - N2 INDICATION N2 Indication
The N2 indications for the main engines show at the top left of the lower display unit (DU). The N2 value shows as a digital and analog indication.
In the normal range of operation, these are white in color:
-Digital readout
-Highlight box around the digital readout
-Analog scale
-Analog pointer.

The area behind the analog pointer is a gray shade.
If N2 gets to the redline limit, the white indications change to red.
NOTE:  If there has been an N2 exceedance, the highlight box around the digital readout will be displayed in red with the airplane on the ground and both engines shut down. It will remain red until reset by maintenance personnel.
