Autothrottle Limit Message
The autothrottle limit (A/T LIMIT) message shows when the N1 data from the FMCS is NCD or not valid. It shows at the top of the upper display unit (DU) and is white in color.
Thrust Modes
The FMCS calculates thrust modes and sends them to the display electronic units (DEU). They show at the top of the upper display unit and are green in color. If the N1 data is NCD, three dashes shows.
These are the thrust modes that can show:
- TO
- R-TO
- CLB
- R-CLB
- CON
- CRZ
- ---
- GA.

Total Air Temperature
The total air temperature (TAT) shows as a digital indication in the top left corner of the upper DU. The legend is cyan in color, and the temperature is white. TAT always shows in degrees Celsius.
TAT data comes from the left air data inertial reference system (ADIRS). If the left ADIRS data is not valid, TAT shows from the right ADIRS. There is no failure flag for TAT.
Selected Temperature
The selected temperature shows in the top center of the upper DU. It always shows in degrees Celsius and is green in color. The flight crew sets the selected temperature on the FMCS takeoff reference page for a derated takeoff.

CDS -- ENGINE DISPLAY - CREW ALERT MESSAGES Crew Alert Messages
These are three crew alert messages for each engine:
- START VALVE OPEN
- OIL FILTER BYPASS
- LOW OIL PRESSURE.

All three messages show in reverse video with black letters on an amber annunciation. The captions, ENG 1 and ENG 2, are cyan in color.
The START VALVE OPEN message comes on steady during a main engine start. If at starter cutout (55% N2) the start valve does not go to the closed position, then the START VALVE OPEN message goes on and off for ten seconds and then stays on steady.
The OIL FILTER BYPASS message comes on if the main engine scavenge oil filter starts to clog. The message goes on and off for the first ten seconds and then stays on steady. The display electronic units (DEUs) inhibit the flash mode during takeoff and landings.
The LOW OIL PRESSURE message comes on if main engine oil pressure goes below the red line limit. The message goes on and off for the first ten seconds and then stays on steady. The display electronic units (DEUs) inhibit the flash mode during takeoff and landings.

CDS -- ENGINE DISPLAY - N1 INDICATION N1 Indication
The N1 indications for the main engines show at the top left of the upper display unit (DU). The N1 value shows as a digital and an analog indication.
For normal engine operation, these are white in color:
-Digital readout
-Highlight box around the digital readout
-Analog scale
-Analog pointer.

The area behind the analog pointer is a gray shade.
If N1 gets to the redline limit, these show red:
-Digital readout
-Highlight box
-Analog scale
-Analog pointer.

NOTE:  If there has been an N1 exceedance, the highlight box around the digital readout will be displayed in red with the airplane on the ground and both engines shut down. It will remain red until reset by maintenance personnel.
Normally the display electronic units (DEU) use the N1 data from the electronic engine controls (EEC) for the N1 display. If the EECs do not have electrical power, the DEUs use direct inputs from the N1 speed sensors.

Reference N1 Bug
The N1 reference bug shows on the outer side of the N1 scale and is green in color. It shows the thrust target set automatically by the FMCS or manually by the flight crew.
N1 Command Sector
The N1 command sector shows on the outer side of the analog scale. It shows the difference between the commanded thrust and the actual thrust.
N1 Reference Readout
The reference N1 readout shows above the N1 digital readout and is green in color. It only shows when the N1 target is manually set. If the N1 set switch on the engine display control panel is set in the AUTO position, the N1 reference readout is blank.
