E. An EICAS advisory and status message ENG-# START VLV will show, after a 5 second delay, when corresponding start valve position disagrees with the commanded position of the engine START switch.
NOTE: "ENG-#" denotes engine 1, 2, 3, or 4.

4. Starter QAD Adapter___________________
A. The starter QAD adapter housing is attached to the main gearbox and has an index pin to make sure correct installation of the starter. The starter is attached to the starter QAD adapter housing with a QAD clamp.
5. Autostart System________________
A. The autostart system, also is a backup power source for the EEC, is a function of the Supplemental Control Unit (SCU). For more data on the SCU, refer to 73-21-00, Engine Fuel and Control - Description and Operation.
B. The SCU supplies automatic engine start on the ground and in the air. The autostart controller in the SCU will take corrective action for all starting faults which occur.

C. When the SCU finds a starting anomaly, the SCU sends fault messages to the flight deck.

When the autostart sequence starts the SCU first makes sure of the input from the EEC data bus. If the SCU does not get the input from the EEC data bus in a specified time limit, the SCU will stop the autostart sequence, and will send an "ENG 1 (2,3, or 4) AUTOSTART" EICAS message to the flight deck.
