(1)
Remove the dust caps.
S 214-017-N00
(2)
Examine the flange seal surfaces and seal (4) for scratches, cracks, and other unwanted conditions.
(a) Replace the seal, if it is necessary.
S 424-041-N00
(3) Do these steps to install the start valve (Fig. 401):
NOTE: You can get access to the manual override in the starter
____ valve through the access hole in the left core cowl only when the starter, interconnect duct, and starter valve are correctly aligned.
(a) Clean the mating flanges between the interconnect duct (5) and the start valve (2).
NOTE: This will make sure there is an electrical bond between
____
the mating flanges.
(b)
Install the seal (4) on the flange.
(c)
Align the start valve (2) with the lower start duct.
NOTE: Make sure the separation between the flanges is no
____ more than 0.03 inch (0.76 mm).

(d) Install the coupling (3) on the flanges.
(e) Tighten the coupling nut with the hand.
(f) Do these steps to install the interconnect duct (5), if
necessary:
1) Examine the flange seal surfaces (where the innterconnect
duct and the starter touch) and seal (4) for scratches,
cracks, and other unwanted conditions.
a) Replace the seal, if it is necessary.
2) Install the seal (4) on the flange.
3) Put the interconnect duct (5) between the starter and the
start valve (2).
a) Align the index key on the duct flange with the index
hole in the starter flange.
b) Make sure the separation between the flanges is no more
than 0.03 inch (0.76 mm).
4) Install the couplings (3) on the flange connection.
a) Tighten the coupling nut to 100-115 pound-inches (11-13
newton meters).
(g) Examine the flange seal surfaces (where the interconnect duct
and start valve touch) and seal (4) for scratches, cracks, and
other unwanted conditions.
1) Replace the seal, if it is necessary.
(h) Install the seal (4) on the flange.
(i) Align the index hole in the duct flange with the index key in
the start valve flange.
1) Make sure the separation between the flanges is no more
than 0.03 inch (0.76 mm).
(j) Install the couplings (3) on the flange connection.
1) Tighten the coupling nut to 100-115 pound-inches (11-13
newton meters).
(k) Tighten the coupling (3) nut between the start valve and the
lower starter duct to 100-115 pound-inches (11-13 Newton
meters).
(l) Clean the mating surfaces between the bonding jumper (9) and
the start valve (2).
NOTE: This will make sure there is an electrical bond between____
the mating surfaces.
(m) Install the screw (8), washers (7), and nut (6) that attach the
bonding jumper (9) to the start valve (2) flange
(AMM 20-11-15/401).
