A.  Prepare for Adjustment
(1)
Provide electrical power (Ref 24-22-0 MP).

(2)
Extend flaps and install leading edge flap locks (Ref 27-81-0 MP).

WARNING:  REFER TO 27-81-0 MP FOR LOCK INSTALLATION PROCEDURE. FLAPS ARE FAST ACTING AND CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY TO PERSONNEL.

(3)
Check P2 fuel quantity indications.

(4)
Open fuel QTY and EP GRD FUELING circuit breakers on P6 panel.

(5)  
For tanks that are not empty, disconnect their fuel quantity connector(s) from busing plug at wing spar locations (Fig. 501). Connect a grounding wire from pin 3 of indicator connector(s) to airplane ground.


B.  Adjust Fuel Summation Unit to Read Zero
(1)
Close fuel QTY and EP GRD FUELING circuit breaker.

(2)
Warm up system for five minutes.

(3)  Turn CDU mode selector switch to STBY and depress following three keys in order: recall key  RCL , minus key -   , , page advance key .

(4)
Check CDU display (Fig. 502).

(a)
If FUEL WT reads zero, no zero adjustment required. Proceed to par. D.

(b)  
If FUEL WT reads other than zero, remove fuel summation unit from panel far enough to gain access to top cover. Remove top cover and adjust EMPTY screw until FUEL WT reads zero. Proceed to par. D.

(c)
If FUEL WT is not displayed, accomplish par. C.

 

 

C.  Alternate Zero Adjustment (Accomplish ONLY IF Unable to Perform Par. B)
(1)
Open fuel QTY and EP GRD FUELING circuit breakers on P6 panel.

(2)  
Select a tank with less than 4000 lbs (1800 Kgs) of fuel. Remove pin 3 grounding wire (if installed). Leave other pin 3 grounding wire(s) attached.

(3)  
Connect test adapter cables between airplane wiring and AIRCRAFT TANK UNITS and INDICATORS sections of system tester (Fig. 503).

(4)
Connect 115 volt power to tester.

(5)
Connect grounding cable between tester and airplane ground.

(6)
Close fuel QTY and EP GRD FUELING circuit breakers.

(7)
Set function switch to IND TEST - A/C + PROBE SIM.

(8)  
Adjust SIMULATORS - PROBE capacitance until tank indicator reads 4000 lbs (1800 Kgs).

(9)  
Check that CDU display reads FUEL WT of 4000 lbs (1800 Kgs). If not, adjust EMPTY screw until FUEL WT reads 4000 lbs (1800 Kgs). Proceed to FULL adjustment of fuel summation until, par. D. (8).

D.  Full Adjustment of Fuel Summation Unit
(1)  
Connect 115 volt power to tester.

(2)  
Connect grounding cable between tester and airplane ground.

(3)  
Open fuel QTY and EP GRD FUELING circuit breakers on P6 panel.

(4)  
For tank 1, remove pin 3 grounding wire (if installed). Leave other pin 3 grounding wire(s) attached.

(5)  
Connect test adapter cables between airplane wiring and AIRCRAFT TANK UNITS and INDICATORS sections of system tester (Fig. 503).

(6)  
Close fuel QTY and EP GRD FUELING circuit breakers.

(7)  
Set function switch to IND TEST - A/C + PROBE SIM.

(8)  
Adjust SIMULATORS - PROBE capacitance until tank under test indicator reads: TANKS 1 & 2 10,000 lbs 4,600 Kgs CENTER TANK 16,800 lbs 7,600 Kgs

(9)  
Adjust fuel summation unit FULL adjustment screw (Fig. 502) until CDU display reads same value as tank indicator.

(10)
Open fuel QTY and EP GRD FUELING circuit breakers and disconnect test adapter cables. Install pin 3 grounding wire if tank not empty.

(11)
Repeat steps (4) thru (10) for remaining tanks.


E.  Restore Airplane to Normal
(1)  
Open fuel QTY and EP GRD FUELING circuit breakers.

(2)  
Remove pin 3 ground wire(s).

(3)  
Reconnect airplane wiring to bussing plugs.

(4)  
Remove electrical power if no longer required (Ref 24-22-0 MP).
