WARNING:  MAKE SURE ALL PERSONNEL AND OBSTRUCTIONS ARE CLEAR OF AILERON, ELEVATOR, OUTBOARD SPOILERS AND RUDDER SYSTEMS. SURFACES AND CONTROLS MAY MOVE ABRUPTLY WHEN HYDRAULIC POWER IS APPLIED.

(4)  
Ensure ailerons are operable.

(5)  
Ensure autopilot, vertical gyro, compass systems and air data computer circuit breakers are closed.


C.  Test Roll Force Transducer
(1)  
Engage roll channel.

NOTE:  If the force transducer is not adjusted properly, the roll channel may not engage.

(2)  
Position autopilot heading select switch to HDG SEL.

(3)  
Connect adapter and torque wrench to hub of captain's control wheel.

(4)  
Turn the control wheel out of detent. The heading select switch should return to the center position when the scale indicates 5 to 13 pound-feet.


NOTE:  If the transducer is not operating, the heading select switch will remain in  HDG SEL.
D.  Restore Airplane to Normal Configuration
(1)  
Disengage roll channel.

(2)  
Remove torque wrench and adapter from control wheel.

(3)  
Determine whether there is any further need for electrical or hydraulic power on the airplane; if not, remove power.

ROLL CONTROL WHEEL STEERING FORCE TRANSDUCER -REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
EFFECTIVITY
SA ZS-SIA and on GJ B-2509 and B-2510
1.  General (Fig. 401)
A.  The roll force transducer is located on the aileron drum at the bottom of the captain's control column.
2.  Equipment and Materials
A.  Shims (2) - 0.021 +0.003/-0.0 inch
3.  Remove Roll Force Transducer
A.  Open autopilot circuit breakers on load control center P6.
B.  Open lower access door 1103 (Ref Chapter 12, Access Doors and Panels).
C.  Disconnect force transducer cables from airplane wiring and clamps (Fig. 402).
D.  Unwind force transducer cables from shaft assembly spool. Note direction of winding of each cable and record for later reference.
E.  Remove two bolts, washers and nuts and remove force transducer from aileron drum.
4.  Prepare to Install Roll Force Transducer
A.  Provide electrical power and energize load control center P6.
B.  Pressurize hydraulic systems A and B (Ref 29-11-0 MP and 29-12-0 MP).

C.  Ensure hydraulic power is applied to the aileron power control units. Center control columns and tag indicating they are not to be moved.
NOTE:  Power control units must be operative to ensure cables are aligned properly in relation to force transducer.
5.  Install Roll Force Transducer
NOTE:  Prior to installing transducer, connect to test box F80218 and record null voltage, then connect to system wiring, energize AFCS and record voltage on FCC test connector J7-63. This determines the ac null and dc analog null (phase component included) of new unit  (Ref CWS Force Transducer - A/T).
A.  Insert shims between shaft and drum. Gap setting should be 0.021 +0.003/-0.0 inch (View 1, Fig. 402).

B.  Hold force transducer in position and install bolts, washers and nuts to quadrant assembly.
C.  Adjust force transducer (Ref Roll Control Wheel Steering Force Transducer - Adjustment/Test).
D.  Install lockwire on adjustable rod end of the force transducer.
E.  Remove shims.
F.  Check that gap dimensions are 0.021 +0.003/-0.0 inch.
G.  Clamp lower transducer cable in cable clamp located below transducer attach arm. Do not preload cable from transducer.
H.  Coil cable around upper spool in CCW direction (as viewed from below) from top to bottom of spool.
(1)  
On 10-61072-5 transducer, wrap cable approximately three turns.

(2)  
On 10-61072-7 or -8 transducer, wrap cable approximately seven turns.


I.  Rotate control wheel in direction to tighten cable around spool then clamp cable on bracket. Rotate control wheel both directions several times and verify that cable does not restrict movement. Relocate cable in bracket clamps if required and recheck.
