Select +6000 feet/minute V/S. Observe that trim direction reverses. Allow stabilizer to run until automatically stopped by limit switches.

(h)  
Disengage autopilot. Check that dimension B is between 25.44 and 25.80 inches (Ref Chapter 27, Horizontal Stabilizer Trim Control System).

(i)  
Place A/P ENGAGE A switch to CMD. Engage V/S mode and select -6000 feet/minute V/S. Observe that the stabilizer leading edge moves up at a rate of 1 unit of trim in 4 to 7 seconds. Allow stabilizer to run until automatically stopped by limit switches.

(j)  
Disengage autopilot. Check that dimension B is between 42.90 and 43.26 inches.

(k)  
Place A/P ENGAGE A switch to CMD. Set flaps to O-unit position. Check that autopilot does not disengage. Hand crank stabilizer to airplane nose down limit.

(l)  
Engage V/S mode and select +6000 feet/minute V/S. Observe stabilizer leading edge moves down at a rate of 3 units in 30 to 40 seconds.

(m)
Apply V/S signal to keep stabilizer trimming and place autopilot trim cutout switch to CUTOUT. Observe stabilizer stops trimming immediately. Observe autopilot disengages.

(n)  
Return autopilot trim cutout switch to NORMAL and place A/P ENGAGE A switch to CMD.

(o)  
Apply V/S signal in either direction. Observe stabilizer trims. Disengage autopilot. Remove ground from J6-82.

(p)  
Repeat steps (a) thru (o) using A/P ENGAGE B switch and AFCS computer B.

 

(q)
Open autopilot stabilizer trim 3-phase circuit breaker. (11A) Test Elevator Camout Force

(a)  
Place A/P ENGAGE A switch to CMD. Ground pin J6-63 on A FCC.

(b)  
Using spring scale, push on center of Captain's control column. Check that force required to move column is between 20 and 30 pounds. Release column force.

(c)  
Repeat step (b) with pull on control column. Disengage autopilot. Remove ground from J6-63.

(d)  
Repeat steps (a) thru (c) using A/P ENGAGE B switch, ground J6-63 on B FCC and apply force to First Officer's control column.

Test A/P Aileron Camout Force

(a)  
Using 10-pound limit torque wrench, slowly apply clockwise torque to the control wheel until the wheel begins to move. Record value.

(b)  
Repeat step (a) for counterclockwise torque.

(c)  
Ground pin J7-63 on A-FCC. Place A/P ENGAGE A switch to CMD. Slowly tilt VG-1 for a left bank maintaining control wheel position at neutral with the torque wrench. Observe torque builds up to a maximum value and levels off. Record value.

(d)  
Check that sum of value recorded in step (a) and step (c) is between 7.7 and 12.8 lb-ft. Level VG-1.

(e)  
Slowly tilt VG-1 for a right bank maintaining control wheel position at neutral with torque wrench. Observe torque builds up to a maximum value and levels off. Record value.

(f)  
Check that sum of value recorded in step (b) and step (e) is between 7.7 and 12.8 lb-ft. Level VG-1 and disengage autopilot.

(g)  
Repeat steps (c) thru (f) using A/P ENGAGE B switch and VG-2. Ground pin J7-63 on B-FCC.

(h)  
Remove torque wrench. Remove grounds from J7-63.

Test A/P Aileron Force Limiter

(a)  
With trailing edge flaps full up, place A/P ENGAGE A switch to CMD and heading select BANK LIMIT to 30 degrees.

(b)  
Tilt VG-1 to simulate a 30-degree right bank. Observe control wheels rotate and stop between 15 and 19 degrees. Level VG-1.

NOTE:  Test may be performed with VG's mounted in airplane by substituting HDG SEL mode and inserting HDG error signal instead of tilting VG.

(c)  
Repeat step (b) for left bank then disengage autopilot.

(d)  
Repeat steps (a) thru (c) using A/P ENGAGE B switch and VG-2.

(e)  
Set flaps to 1 unit.

(f)  
Place A/P ENGAGE A switch to CMD and tilt VG-1 to simulate a 30-degree right bank. Observe control wheels rotate and stop between 23 and 27 degrees. Level VG-1.

(g)  
Repeat step (f) for left bank then disengage autopilot.

(h)  
Repeat steps (f) and (g) using A/P ENGAGE B switch and VG-2.

(i)  
Place A/P ENGAGE A switch to CMD and push HDG SEL button. Observe HDG SEL is annunciated on both FMA's.

(j)  
Slowly rotate HDG knob until control wheel rotates approximately 10 degrees from neutral. Disengage autopilot, center control wheel, then place A/P ENGAGE A switch to CMD.

(k)  
Push HDG SEL button and rotate HDG knob to obtain 45 degree preset heading increase from airplane heading. Observe that control wheels rotate and stop between 23 and 27 degrees.

(l)  
Rotate HDG knob to airplane heading then to decreased heading of 45 degrees. Observe that control wheels rotate and stop between 23 and 27 degrees.
