example to show the use of pitot/static pressure. The standby airspeed indicator
is pneumatically driven by both pitot and static input from the pitot-static system
over a range of 60-450 knots.

The indicator mechanism is contained in an airspeed capsule having two
pressure ports: one for static pressure, supplied to the capsule interior; and the
other for pitot pressure, supplied to the diaphragm interior. Diaphragm response
to differential pitot-static pressure is substantially linear with indicator's needle.
The faster the airplane flies ,the greater the difference between pitot and static
pressure. A link connects the moveable portion of the diaphragm to the rocking
shaft assembly. A sector gear on the rocking shaft drives a pinion gear, the shaft
of which protrudes through the center of the dial and serves as the pointer
mounting shaft.

TEXT
[1] Air data computer system provides air pressure and temperature
related data. The air data computer (ADC) receives pitot and static air
pressure from the pitot probes. It uses the static pressure to compute the
altitude and altitude rate, and the difference between static and pitot
pressure to compute the airplane's airspeed. The computed altitude and
airspeed are then used to compute the mach number.
