TEXT
[1] The Instrument Landing System (ILS) provides precision approach guidance
during ILS approaches by giving position data relative to the glideslope and
runway centerline. The glide slope (G/S) and localizer (LOC) beams are
radiated by antenna arrays located on the ground near the runway. The G/S
provides a fixed descent rate path to the touch down point and the LOC is
aligned with the runway centerline. The onboard ILS measures vertical
deviation from the G/S beam and horizontal deviation from the LOC beam .The
ILS outputs this deviation data to interfacing system for display and
navigational use.

[2] The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) arranges the approach
conditions under categories:
Category I ------- operation down to 60M decision height (the height above
the runway at which the pilot must be able to see to land is called the desision
height) with runway visual range (RVR) in excess of 800 M with high
probability of success.
Category II ------- Operation down to 30M decision height with RVR in
excess of 400 M with high probability of success.
Category III a ---- Operation with no decision height limitation to and
along the surface of the runway with external visual reference during the final
phase of landing with RVR of 200M.
