12) Clear belt (10) from compressor (5) and remove compressor (5). C. Installation of L40 compressor
1) Inspect the supports for cracks and evidence of corrosion.
2) Inspect belt (10) for condition, replace if necessary.
NOTE : To replace the belt, it is necessary to remove the propeller - refer to 61-10-00, and the starter ring.
3) Inspect compressor (5) for overall condition, inspect in particular for cracks on the attachment lugs and on bolts (1) and (6).
4) Position compressor (5) with bolt (6) and engage belt (10) onto idler pulley (11) and compressor (5).
5) Install bolt (1) and shim washers (2), observe the quantity and position marked during removal.
6) Install shim washers (7), observe the quantity and position marked during removal.
7) Install nuts (3) and (8) and check compressor and starter ring pulleys for alignment ; re-adjust, if necessary.
8) Torque nut (3) - refer to 20-00-01.
9) Install new cotter pins (4) and (9).
10) Check the gap at compressor belt / alternator belt crossing ; min. gap 0.079 in (2 mm).
11) If necessary, adjust the gap by moving the shim washer(s) of idler pulley (11) on its axle.
12) If the required gap is still not obtained, re-adjust the alternator setting by the value of one washer.
13) Adjust the tension of belt (10) - refer to Paragraph 3.D.
14) Remove the blanking caps and plugs and connect the LP and HP hoses to compressor (5). TB 21 aircraft - refer to Figure 201A
15) Position LP hose (14) fitted with tie-wrap (15). Install shouldered bushing (17), screw (16), washer (12) and new nut (13).

16) Connect the power supply wire to compressor (5).
17) Replenish compressor (5) with oil - refer to 12-15-04.
18) Charge with refrigerant - refer to 12-15-01.
19) Make sure all the tools and materials are removed and the work area is clean and free from debris.
20) Install the engine cowlings - refer to 71-10-01.
21) Remove the warning sign prohibiting main switch-breaker operation.
22) Perform an operational test of the vapor cycle cooling system - refer to 21-55-00, page 501.

3. ADJUSTMENT / TEST - TENSION OF L40 COMPRESSOR BELT (Figure 201)
A. Tools and consumable materials
- Spring scale 0 - 45 Ibf (0 - 200 N), P / N ESO 563 or equivalent
- Stainless steel lockwire dia. 0.032 in (0.8 mm)
B. Preliminary steps
1) Make sure that the main switch-breaker is open.
2) Install the warning sign prohibiting main switch-breaker operation.
