THE PRESSURE RISE WILL BECOME PROPORTIONAL TO THE VOLUME OF THE AIR IN THE SYSTEM.
WHEN AIR AND REFRIGERANT ARE MIXED IN THE SYSTEM, A CHEMICAL REACTION WILL OCCUR AND HYDROCHLORIC ACID, WHICH WILL ADVERSELY AFFECT THE ALUMINIUM, COPPER, IRON, AND OTHER MATERIALS IN THE SYSTEM, MAY BE GENERATED.
1. LEAK CHECK OF VAPOR CYCLE COOLING SYSTEM (Figure 601)
A. Tools and consumable materials
- Charging cart, KLIMAX 134 PR4 or equivalent
- Electronic leak detector
- Refrigerant (TB 05-922)
- Safety goggles and gloves
- Lint-free clean cloths
- Manifold gauge set
B. Procedure
WARNING : OBSERVE THE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS CONCERNING REFRIGERANT - REFER TO 12-15-00.
1) In the event of a major leak or when charging refrigerant into the system for the first time, perform the following operations
a) Remove baggage compartment bottom door 242.
b) Connect manifold gauge set to service valves.
c) Connect the vacuum pump to manifold gauge set.
d) Make sure the HP and LP valves of the manifold gauge set are open.
e) Start the vacuum pump and draw a vacuum of 20 to 30 in Hg on system.
f) Close HP and LP valves and stop the vacuum pump. Hold for about 10 minutes and make sure negative pressure does not increase.

g) If the pressure changes, the system is leaking. Perform the following operations
1 Make sure the HP and LP valves are closed.
2 Stop the vacuum pump.
CAUTION : THE PRESENCE OF AIR INTO THE SYSTEM GENERATES A CORROSIVE CHEMICAL REACTION AND REDUCES THE CONDENSER PERFORMANCE.
3 Connect the refrigerant drum to the manifold gauge set and purge to remove the air entrapped in the hose.
