The overpressure relief valve is calibrated to open at 425 psi (29 bars).
A sight glass, integrated into the receiver drier head, makes it possible to check for bubbles in the system.
The receiver drier is installed in the rear fuselage, aft of frame C6, on the high pressure system, between the condenser and the evaporator.
G. S99 binary pressure switch
Located on the high pressure system aft of frame C6, a binary pressure switch calibrated at 30 psi (2 bars) and 350 psi (24.1 bars) ensures the system safe operation by cutting off electrical power supply to the compressor electromagnetic clutch if either of the pressure limits is reached.
H. Service valve
The low pressure (LP) service valve and the high pressure (HP) service valve are installed on a tee-shaped feedthru union.
The fool-proofing of both valves is achieved by a difference in the diameter, the LP valve has a diameter larger than that of the HP valve.
They are located in the rear fuselage behind frame C6, adjacent to the receiver drier.
I. Control panel
The controls and indicating devices of the vapor cycle cooling system are located on the instrument panel below the L.H. control wheel in the area identified "AIR CONDITIONING".
A three-position S80 switch :
- "OFF" : System shut off.
- "FAN" : Controls B60 evaporator fan in cabin ventilation fan mode.
- "AIR COND." : Controls L40 compressor, B61 condenser fan and B60 evaporator fan in cabin vapor cycle cooling mode.
A dual position "HI-FAN" and "LO-FAN" S81 switch controls both speeds of B60 evaporator fan in ventilation and vapor cycle cooling modes.
A DS91 blue indicator light illuminates when the L40 compressor and the B61 condenser fan are operating.

This indicator light is also a test button to check the bulb for operation.
The control panel is electrically protected by CB108 "A/C CTL" circuit breaker. 4. OPERATION (Figures 3 and 4)
When the S80 switch is set to "AIR COND", the L40 compressor sucks the low pressure gaseous refrigerant and discharges it at high pressure and high temperature through the S99 binary pressure switch towards the condenser.
The high pressure, high temperature gaseous refrigerant flows in the condenser where its heat energy is extracted by the outside air sucked by the B61 condenser fan through the condenser and then expelled overboard.
The refrigerant condenses and leaves the condenser as a high pressure liquid.
From the condenser, the refrigerant, cooled by the B61 condenser fan, continues through the receiver drier which removes moisture and retains impurities and reaches the thermostatic expansion valve at the evaporator inlet.
The capillary bulb secured to the hose senses the evaporator outlet temperature and controls the opening or the closing of the thermostatic expansion valve to modulate and control the refrigerant flow through the evaporator.
