Fault codes are shown in alpha numeric format on the HUD control panel. The fault codes are grouped by LRU. The alpha part of the fault code is an abbreviation of the suspected LRU; HC is the HUD Computer, OHU is the Overhead Unit, DEU is the Drive Electronic Unit, and HCU is the HUD Control Unit.

The HGS computer stores fault data that occur in flight. You can see faults that occurred on previous flight legs to help isolate an intermittent fault that is not found by the BITE self-test.
B. BITE Procedure
(1) Do the BITE procedure for the HUD.
(a) Push and release the TEST switch on the HUD control panel.
NOTE: When you hold the TEST switch for more than 4 seconds, you test the control panel display. 1) Make sure these indications show: a) The FAULT light on the HUD control panel comes on during the BITE. b) TEST shows on the STBY display line on the HUD control panel. c) The FAULT light on the HUD control panel goes off after the BITE. d) The LED on the TEST switch comes on. e) The LED on the TEST switch goes off after the BITE. f) No maintenance message fault codes show on the STBY display line. 2) Refer to the following table to find the fault isolation task for the applicable maintenance message.
