 MOORING - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
___________________________________
 1.  General_______
 A.  The airplane is designed to withstand high velocity ground winds from any angle without mooring. However, when high winds are anticipated, extra care is advised. When the airplane is parked on dry pavement and winds are expected to be greater than 70 knots, moor the airplane at the wheels to reduce movement and chance of structural damage. On wet pavement, moor the airplane when winds are expected to be greater than 60 knots. If the surface is covered with ice or snow, moor the airplane when winds are expected to be greater than 30 knots. To help reduce airplane movement, snow and ice should be removed from the surface below the wheels.
 B.  Mooring lines are designed to be used when ground winds are expected to approach or exceed 80 knots.
 C.  The statement "chance of structural damage" in the first paragraph refers to the fact that if the mooring lines are not attached, the airplane can do the steps that follow:
 -
aircraft can pitch up - aft fuselage will strike ground and be damaged

 -
aircraft can side skid - landing gear may be damaged

 -
aircraft can roll - wing will strike the ground and be damaged

 -
aircraft can move, striking an object.

HIGH WIND CONDITIONS MOORING - MAINTENANCE PRACTICES
____________________________________________________
 1.  General
_______
 A.  When you think it is necessary to do special mooring because of strong winds, mooring at the wheels will decrease the airplane movement. It will also decrease the risk of structural damage.
 (1)  For winds of 70 knots or more, extra care is necessary. For surfaces that are wet or have ice, do the special mooring at lower wind velocities.
NOTE: Refer to AMM 10-13-00 for the effects of wind on the
____ airplane. Refer to AMM 10-20-00 for mooring and surface conditions.
You must attach cables to the tow lug attachments on the main gear.
Refer to Chapter 7, Jacking, for jack locations.
