longer displayed or the thrust lever is closed.

Note: Operate engine at the reduced thrust level for
remainder of flight.
If OVERHEAT ENG message remains displayed:
FUEL CONTROL switch. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . CUTOFF
APU selector
(If APU available). . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .START, then ON
[Provides an additional source of electrical power.]
TRANSPONDER MODE selector. . . . . . . . . . . . . . TA ONLY
[Prevents climb commands which can exceed single engine performance
capability.]
Plan to land at the nearest suitable airport.
If landing using flaps 20:
GND PROX FLAP OVRD. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . OVRD
Note: Use flaps 20 and VREF20 for landing and flaps 5
for go–around.
If landing using flaps 30 (performance permitting):
Note: Use flaps 30 and VREF30 for landing and flaps 20
for go–around.

Do not accomplish the following checklist:
AUTOTHROTTLE
Condition: Smoke is detected in the aft equipment cooling
system.
Wait 2 minutes.
[Allows time for any smoke in the system to clear.]
AFT EQUIPMENT COOLING switch. . . . . . . .OFF, then AUTO
[Attempts reset of the aft equipment cooling system.]
If SMOKE EQUIP CLG AFT message remains displayed:
Plan to land at the nearest suitable airport.
Note: After 30 minutes of operation at low altitude and low
cabin differential pressure, non-critical electronic
equipment may fail.
Condition: Smoke is detected in the forward equipment cooling
system.
Wait 2 minutes.
[Allows time for any smoke in the system to clear.]
FWD EQUIPMENT COOLING switch. . . . . . . .OFF, then AUTO
[Attempts reset of the forward equipment cooling system.]
If SMOKE EQUIP CLG FWD message remains displayed:
Plan to land at the nearest suitable airport.
Note: After 30 minutes of operation at low altitude and low
cabin differential pressure, non-critical electronic
equipment may fail.

Condition: Smoke is detected in the miscellaneous equipment
cooling system in the cabin overhead area.
Note: All power is removed from the affected equipment for
the remainder of the flight. Broadband services and
IFE are inoperative. Smoke detection is no longer
accurate after SMOKE EQUIP CLG MISC is initially
displayed.
If smoke increases or is persistent in the cabin:
Plan to land at the nearest suitable airport.
Condition: A concentration of air conditioning smoke/fumes are
identified.
Oxygen masks and smoke goggles
(If required). . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .ON
Crew communications
(If required). . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Establish
Recirculation FANS switches (Both). . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .OFF
[Removes fans as a possible source of smoke/fumes. Stops recirculation of
smoke/fumes and increases fresh air flow.]
If smoke/fumes continue:
Left PACK switch. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .OFF
[Removes left side of the air conditioning system as a possible source of
smoke/fumes.]
Left TRIM AIR switch . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .OFF
[Removes left side of the trim air system as a possible source of
smoke/fumes.]
