AMC M.A.607 Certifying staff

1.
Adequate understanding of the relevant aircraft and/or aircraft component(s) to be maintained together with the associated organisation procedures means that the person has received training and has relevant maintenance experience on the prod-uct type and associated organisation procedures such that the person understands how the product functions, what are the more common defects with associated con-sequences.

2.
All prospective certifying staff are required to be assessed for competence, qualifica-tion and capability related to intended certifying duties. Competence and capability can be assessed by having the person work under the supervision of another certify-ing person for sufficient time to arrive at a conclusion. Sufficient time could be as little as a few weeks if the person is fully exposed to relevant work. The person need not be assessed against the complete spectrum of intended duties. When the person has been recruited from another approved maintenance organisation and was a cer-tifying person in that organisation then it is reasonable to accept a written confirma-tion from the previous organisation.

3.
The organisation should hold copies of all documents that attest to qualification, and to recent experience.
